parties every night, if thats what you're looking for, beautiful campus, really intense on greek life, academics are really good, networking is probably among top in the nation, campus life is pretty good, friendly people, lots of study abroad programs, social scene is really good, and facilities are great, especially the gym. Girls are absolutely drop dead gorgeous, I mean models and dallas cowboys cheerleaders go here! Its Ridiculous! Lots of rich kids flaunting daddy's money though, with their trust funds as a life safety net they make the university one of the top ranked in night life. If thats what you're into, I don't blame you, but its tough for some to handle though and it gets a little ridiculous. Campus PD are really strict, and police from 4 different stations roll through campus, so you're safe, unless you're a person who likes to drink, in which case I say get an apartment off campus, because otherwise you're going to get an alcohol violation or two eventually.

Most Diversity I Have Experienced

I grew up in a mostly white area and never experienced cultural diversity or acceptance. Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University seeks to include all persons, and celebrates all races, colors, genders, sexual orientations, denominations, and cultures.

Plethora of Food!

SMU has a wonderful location, full of dining options that range from fast food to fine dining. Cost varies as well, but everything is reasonably priced. I love Bubba's Chicken, La Madeleine, and of course Chick-Fil-A!

Diversity

Diversity is an important aspect here and it's a great place to feel accepted.

Wonderful Professors, Challenging but Not Too Stressful

The title really says it all. The professors are very willing to help students and want you to succeed. They're truly the best academic asset SMU has. The work can be hard, but its not usually that stressful.

Professors Help Find Your Potential

I have been to a state university as well as a community college and I must say the professors at SMU are immensely challenging. They really know how to get you to tap into your full potential and creativity - often without you realizing that you had it. They can open your mind to subjects you never thought would interest you and delicately push you to find motivation.

Proud to Be a Mustang!

Southern Methodist University (SMU) is seriously the best college you could attend. The people are nice, the classes are fun, and the college itself is gorgeous to look at. I had an easy time fitting in and making friends because everyone was so friendly. I'm so glad I chose SMU and to be a Mustang. Pony up!

Mashed Potatoes With Gravy

The food really is great. There are plenty of options such as a sandwich bar, salad bar, sushi bar, and this changes frequently. There are also other places to eat on campus such as Einstein's Bagels, Chik-Fil-A, Pizza Hut, and more.

Best University in the South!

Southern Methodist University is indeed a prestigious center of education in the heart of Dallas, Texas but it is also a second home to many. The campus is breathtakingly beautiful, people smile everywhere (thanks to southern hospitality), and the academics are challenging and enriching. The professors know you by name and are always happy to help. The smaller classes and comfortable atmosphere makes SMU a first-class college!

Dream World

We live in one of the nicer sides of town, so safety is optimal and there's police for both SMU and the smaller suburb town we are in. The area is nice, but not exclusive to those in the lower & middle class. Dallas has a LOT to offer, and is a hidden gem that's not too crowded with tourists. There's always something going on downtown, since they are trying to up the ante around here. Honestly, I don't know of one thing you name and cannot find in Dallas (besides a beach...haha). The local stores are very welcoming of the college lifestyle, and often have discounts in surrounding places. The corporate world highly respects SMU grads, partly because a lot of alums stay in Dallas.

Athletics at SMU

The university offers many athletic facilities for all kinds of sports. Many students are involved in a sport but most attend the work out center everyday. Football is definitely a huge part of SMU and the fan support is amazing. Going to a football game is one of the best experiences here at SMU.

Diversity at Southern Methodist University

Although SMU is predominantly White, the university does try to promote diversity and make all students feel welcome. The student center has a department specific for multicultural students that offers programs and mentors to students that might not feel welcome. I am a minority at SMU and I do not feel isolated. I love SMU and I am definitely going to miss it when I graduate.

Computer Lab

Top of the line, all I could ask for and then some!!

Yeah ... OD on Drugs and Participate in Underaged Drinking. but DO NOT. DO NOT Park in the Wrong Spot.

The campus is pretty safe. The university got into a bit of hot water a couple years ago, because some kids overdosed on drugs or something. Frats obviously hold lots of parties. They don't seem to really get in any trouble.

I will say, though, that campus police are OBNOXIOUSLY thorough with parking tickets. If you choose SMU in the end, do yourself a favor and make sure to follow ALL parking rules at ALL times. Don't assume that you won't get caught if you're trying to rush and drop something off for a professor or something. Always keep in mind: Murphy's Law.

Life After SMU

It looks very promising and one of the great things about SMU is the connections and reputation of this place. Dallas is a great place to be and will be a great place to life thanks to all good things that this school represents in the real world.

On the rise

SMU is coming back! More students all the time at the games. Soccer, BBall and football are great to watch. Cannot beat the Boulevard before a FB game. Pony Up!

Nice

This is one beautiful school. They do a great job of keeping it clean and well groomed. Add some great weather to that mix and you have a nice place to go to school. They are always looking to improve SMU and have a thing for fountains which is kind of nice

Miss the nice ones!

Why oh why do the girls go for these skinny, girly dudes? Lots of pretty gals but if your athletic and normal looking.....good luck. Love the school but Ladies, Whats up?

Awesome!

I've met SO many different types of people: ranging between race, sexuality, religions, etc. SMU does an awesome job taking all different types of people, which in turn keeps SMU interesting!

Classes Taught by Professionals

The thing I love the most about my communications major (and basically every other department at SMU as well) is the accessibility of the professors. SMU's a fairly small school, so students have the unique opportunity of getting to know the professors well. More than that, almost all of the communications professors are or were professionals in their field at one point. One of my professors is in charge of conducting dial tests during major elections. Another professor served as a major political consultant in DC, and several are a part of PRSA, the Public Relations Society of America.

Sufficient

This school does a very good job on making sure students are performing well academically with the cosnequences there are for not maintaining a good GPA or B- or better in a class. The extra-curricular groups also have strict rules on punctaulity and loyalty to the organization. I do think there should be more emphasis on teaching students to respect a diverse society where certain terms are prohibted from being used in everyday speech.

SMU - Living the High Life Before You've Even Received a Degree

If you're looking for a university where you can drive around the beautiful campus slowly in your Mercedes, Maserati, or even Aston Martin / Lamborghini (yes, undergrad students do own these - disgusting), then SMU is the place for you. Characterized by an extremely pretentious and flashy atmosphere, SMU provides the ability to thrive and enjoy life to the fullest for the wealthiest students, while those coming from working-class families (those on scholarship, student athletes) feel very out of place and inferior. Most students dress up in designer brand clothing just to go to class. There are more party nights than study nights a week. If you're on a five+ year plan and all you want to do is party four or five or more nights a week, SMU is the place for you. There are usually two or more bus parties a week first semester (busses from the university to clubs and back from 10pm-2am), and second semester is filled with fraternity-sorority mixers. If you want a thriving social life, go Greek. The Greeks run the school, no questions asked. The adminnistration, with overwhelming help from SMU PD, however, are doing everything in their power and more to put an end to Greek life at SMU. Rumor has it this is because the Presidential (Bush) Library to come, but in all honesty, fraternity social events have been the scrutiny of donut-eaters for past years consistently. Not only are we constantly profiled as criminals by SMU PD, but Highland and University Park PDs are both also constantly patrolling campus grounds with access to all dorms and Greek houses with the swipe of a card or entry of master code. Athletics are terrible. Party life is beyond belief. SMU is basically a bubble of America's wealthiest CEOs' and Presidents' kids running around acting like they've already made it, spending money like it grows on trees. Probably because for them, they will have made it / taken over daddy's business upon graduation, and money has never been an issue for them. Students with less money, keep your head down, make grades, and after 4 years you will easily secure a six-figure job post-graduation. SMU's networking is second-to-none.

Network Reliability

I live in Boaz and the internet is horrible. After 6 pm the internet is snail speed. Every once in a while the service completely cuts out. But there is wireless access all over campus, that is definitely a plus.

Professors

The professors are mostly wonderful. Every place has it's bad apples, but I have had wonderful experiences for the most part with very knowledgeable and highly educated professors.

Weather

the weather in texas is moody. it will be really hot and raining or it will be freezing. lots of random thunder storms.
