The rumors are true . . . it's hot in Texas! Dallas weather varies by month, but the trends tend to remain constant. Upon arrival to campus in August, people wear shorts, mini-skirts, flip-flops, tank tops, and anything that allows for breathing room from the awful humidity. The sun continues to beat its massive rays down on SMU until a random day when the raindrops fall out of nowhere. Many people are fooled by the sun and never expect rain. Invest in a sturdy umbrella, rain boots, and rain jackets. The rain may continue on for days-or only minutes-before the sun is visible again. As the winter and fall months begin, students transition into wearing jeans more often, as well as sweaters, SMU hoodies, Juicy velour suits, Ugg boots, heels, Birkenstocks, sneakers, and anoraks. Towards the end of February, as the coldest months come to a close, flip-flops are retrieved once again.
Dallas has every type of weather imaginable. But between the end of January and the middle of February, expect a day or two of snow. Although it may only be an inch or two, the administration may cancel classes depending on how icy the roads are. Be prepared to park your car in the garage because hail is always a possibility. Also, bring bug repellant! Mosquitoes are in full force during August and September. If you choose to remain in Dallas during the summer, be prepared for a high electric bill because it gets very hot and humid. This state has the most sporadic weather, so you just never know.
