I am an online student; however, honor policies are very strict (and rightfully so).

It all depends on what part of the campus you're in. Many of the labs have good computers with reliable internet, as well as the Student Center. But some areas, like the Academic Commons and the Women's Center, get the "hand me down" computers with VERY slow log-in time (once you're in, they're fine, but it can take up to 15 minutes). Wi-fi in the dorms is reliable with fast internet. Printing is a touchy issue--it adds up fast and can get pricey.

When campus and town activities do occur, they are a blast. Unfortunately, they are few and far between. If you look hard enough you can find things to do in town, but sometimes there's just nothing.

Guys & Girls:
I'm not exactly in the market at this time, but there seems to be a lot of country boys with bad manners. I've also had guys sit next to me at breakfast without asking, which is lame--social skills seem to be lacking. There are way more girls than guys attending the school, though, so if you're a guy/gal looking for pretty ladies, this is a good school.

I enjoy the food, even though dining hours could be improved. Many options for all meals.

I haven't noticed any big issues. Drinking occurs often but not to unhealthy excess. People at the school say that partying has actually decreased over the years.

In Marshall, there are really only two/three forms of public transportation. You have the Marshall Area Transit bus- whom usually charges $2 wherever you need to go in town- and additional fees out of town. There is also a Downtown DD for later at night, for people that are of age that want to go out on the town- reasonably priced. Along with the Marshall Taxi- They are not always the easiest to get ahold of- and the drivers are all usually random.

I have had a very smooth transaction with my school. Me being in the military, I was able to make appointments at my own convenience. I had been missing out on my appointment for the TA and GI Bill assistance. But one day when I was in there- I just walked in the office and they were able to help me!

Marshall Minnesota has a different apartment atmosphere. Its hard because the apartments are either really ghetto and cheap, full of people already, or expensive and a few blocks farther than walking distance. If you have a car, you can find apartments that are not within comfortable walking distance. without a roomate you cannot afford a nice apartment close to college on a part time job .

There are LOTS of apartments and houses to rent in Marshall, MN. Some of the apartments are income based and within 2 blocks of campus. I also feel they are reasonably priced.

SMSU is a "dry" campus and does its best to keep underage students from drinking, but the bar across the street allows 18+ every weekend and so that end up back on campus. Enforcement on campus is tight, but once someone becomes friends with their RA, they usually sweet talk their way to getting alcohol in their room. Drinking and marijuana are the most used substances on campus.

Our school spirit is huge, but our teams are not as winning as we would all like. At the beginning of each athletic season, many fans attend. However, as the season progresses the number of people in the stands diminishes. With that being said, there are many opportunities to support athletics with apparel and every student on campus shows their school pride on Fridays.

It's fine, I just don't feel like I'm being challenged very much. They accept almost anyone, so sometimes you feel like you're not working to the best of your potential. The teachers are usually very helpful and friendly, though.

It's actually really great, I just happen to be in a dorm with people who make the atmosphere kind of bad. However the first dorm I was in, Lincoln Center, was a really close-knit community and really fun to be around. It depends on where you are placed.

I absolutely hate the weather here. It's always windy regardless of the season so that, even when you think it should be warm, the wind comes in and freezes the place.

There is a lot of off campus housing very close to campus, ive never personally lived there but they are close and seen relatively affordable.
College Sophomore 2013-04-16T21:28:50Z
The best thing for me is that the school is on the smaller side and you have so many chances to interact with new people. You arent in classes with just freshman or just sophomores, they are more mixed than you would expect.
College Sophomore 2013-04-16T21:26:36Z
Our athletic facilities are all very very nice, as for the teams, we're are an average Division 2 school but this past year our volleyball team was number one nationally. There is a lot of support for all the teams because since it is a smaller school the chances of you knowing and having friends on the teams are really high.

Everyone that I've seen is very nice and approachable.

There aren't any drug situations that I have heard of. Just drinking alcohol.

I have not yet done my student teaching, but my best friend has. She said SMSU helps find a school within close driving distances! It is a very exciting oppurtunity

I am beginning to major in education. SMSU has one of the best education programs in the state! As an education student you have access to many, many helpful resources. The teachers are all super helpful and the class sizes are small and easy to work with. I highly recommend SMSU for education.

For my major (Music) the program is amazing. We're a small school, and small programs like music don't get much money, but the faculty we have are great. I'm not very familiar with other programs, but I know that there are a lot of really good professors, and of course, some not-so-good professors. The good seems to outweigh the bad, though.

For me, it's just the right size--a fairly small town, but it's big enough to have a Walmart--that's all I really need.
College Sophomore 2013-02-28T14:44:35Z
I guess the only reason I had any problems was because I was juggling nine college applications and all of the financial aid applications that went with each. But I got a very good scholarship that made it possible for me to go the college here--I just wish that financial aid didn't rely so much on your parents' earnings, because I'm not getting financial assistance from them. That's a federal problem, though.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
