Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The typical SU student has never tried a hard drug, rarely indulges in pot, and drinks on the weekends. If you want to avoid even that meager amount of drug use, it can be done pretty easily. There’s very little hard drug use at SU compared to many other schools, and even pot use is barely a blip on the social radar. Most students seem to have only heard stories about drug use on campus, and few know of much use first-hand. For what drug use there is, it’s done mostly on weekends and usually on the guys’ side of campus. The only drug that is everywhere is alcohol. However, the choice to drink or not (or do drugs or not) is ultimately the student’s decision. If you really crave some nose candy, you’ll be able to find it, but it won’t jump out at you. And if you want to ignore the drug scene completely, it won’t take much effort.

At Southwestern, drugs are not very visible on campus, nor do they interfere with campus life. There is very little heard about the use of hard drugs, and even the use of marijuana is almost unheard of. Alcohol is just about the only vice in which most students engage, and this is kept to weekend partying. What can we say? We’re a campus of goody-two-shoes.

It's Average

Like most other schools, there will be drugs and alcohol among the students. Alcohol is by far the more popular option when partying. Drinking is the more popular past time. In my experience, most people are respectful of other people's choices to abstain from drugs and alcohol.

School Scene Drugs?

I have not seen any visible drug use people smoke but most college students do. Alcohol is usually visible around the frat houses and campus apartments where the Seniors live.

Only Frat Houses Are Bad

There's no pressure to drink or do drugs except at the frat houses. Campus officials are very tolerant of drugs and alcohol except in school buildings.
