College Prowler Take
The dating scene is one of the most interesting aspects of Southwestern. If you’re not careful, everyone on campus will know about your sexual activities due to “Mouthwestern.” In general, the campus is filled with two types of people: the type that is looking to get married within the next five years, and those that just want to make out with as many people as possible. The difficult part is figuring out under which category you fall, and learning how to figure out if that make-out session on top of the pool table at the Pike house might have meant something more. When it comes to guys at SU, “the goods are good, but the odds sure aren’t.” There may be lots of guys to look at, but there certainly isn’t enough eye candy to go around. It’s a frustrating fact that most of the cutest guys either have a girl back home, or were snatched up during the first week of school. As for the girls, there are truckloads of hotties. They don’t tend to dress provocatively, which is actually quite a relief for many girls. According to most of the students, the girls tend to be hotter than the guys, making pretty good odds guys will end up with decent-looking girls. There isn’t an excess of casual sex on campus; however, it’s always present, especially at the frat houses. If you don’t want in on that scene, though, it’s easy to avoid, even if you still go to the parties.

Southwestern always manages to recruit hot nerds from every high school. Yes, there are hot boys and pretty girls, but we are only a campus of around 2,000 people, so of course we are going to have the hotness on a smaller scale, proportionally. |

There aren’t many guys here. I guess the typical SU guy would be kind of preppy cute. Actually, the typical SU girl would probably be kind of preppy cute, too. They’re hot, in a Texas, preppy-cute kind of way. |

Yeah, what guys? Girls outnumber guys two to one, so boys, you have a pretty good chance of nabbing a decent-looking girl. |

The only real problem I have with Southwestern is that it is difficult finding a female who is interested in just dating, not like, getting married. |

Social Scene
Southwestern happens to be just small enough that when walking along the horseshoe you will see quite a few people and will know 80% of them by name along with their hobbies, relationship status, and where they like to hang out on the weekends. It is not difficult to make friends on campus as everyone is bound to run into people of similar interests at one point or another. Those who like to remain to themselves can attempt to do so, but will be noticed and their presence will be discussed while they stand in earshot.
Hookups or Relationships?
There is a good share of both on SU’s campus. Due to the power of Mouthwestern, the entire school seems to stand aware of every aspect of each hookup and relationships. Hookups are not uncommon to occur drunkenly at a frat house or apartment party and under such circumstances are more or less accepted. Relationships develop and deteriorate across campus almost on a daily basis. Even with this in mind, the pervasive rumor is that 80 percent of SU students end up marrying another SU student. While the alumni center neither confirms nor denies this rumor, it feels true- it seems like once a month somebody gets engaged to a classmate.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
Whether you're looking for a one-night stand or a long-term commitment, your best shot at meeting other singles is at the frat houses. Watch out—any sexual shenanigans will haunt you, and everyone will find out, so beware of the beer-goggles effect! It's easy to be labeled as "easy" at SU, especially if you're a female freshman. If you’re honestly looking for a steady boyfriend or girlfriend, the frat houses are still viable hunting grounds, however, most of the people that go there tend to just be looking for Mr. Right Now and not Mr. (or Ms.) Right. It’s still a great way to meet people and scope out the prospects. However, don’t expect to be bonding over your Bud Light. Just like in the real world, the best place to meet your future spouse is usually through common interests—choir, sports, classes, and so forth. Getting involved with clubs, sports, or Greek life, and meeting as many people as possible will typically produce a good harvest of dates.
Dress Code
The dress code for SU could be described as preppy comfortable with bold splashes of ‘individuality’ every now and again. Most guys can be seen sporting T-shirts advertising past events or a collared shirt along with a pair of Khakis or Jeans. Most girls can be caught year-round in sundresses and skirts with a blouse probably from J. Crew, Banana Republic, or The Gap. It is practically a must that each student owns a few good pairs of jeans and a pair of Sperry’s and/or Rainbows.

2. The Commons—it may seem silly, but everyone has to eat lunch sometime, and due to the design of the Commons, everyone enters the dining area through the same door. Just position yourself next to it and keep your eyes peeled for that special someone.
3. Since POK classes are something everyone has to take, they usually have a motley assortment of students. If you’re tired of looking at the same old faces in your field of study, take a POK. How else would a pre-med student meet an aspiring trumpet player?
