Spelman College - Campus StrictnessCollege Prowler1.15
College Prowler Take
Spelman’s history of numerous rules and regulations automatically feeds the perception of being strict, and this perception is reflected at least in part by reality. The stories students tell about those who got caught do not end with a slight slap on the wrist. Instead, it sounds in most cases as if students were placed on probation, escorted off campus, or introduced to the Atlanta Police Department.
Some students believe that sneaking things like alcohol and weed on campus is easy, but even if it is, many agree it is not worth the consequences. Since Spelman is such a small school, when someone is caught breaking a rule, even a small one, it is a matter of hours before the whole campus knows and the story is blown out of proportion. Just the idea of being the subject of daily gossip is enough to keep most students from breaking the rules. RAs and RDs take their jobs very seriously, and if they smell incense or a candle, even an aromatherapy one, they will reprimand you. If furniture goes missing from the study hall, eventually someone will come looking for that lamp or sofa you thought went so well with your bedspread. Don’t even think about trying to sneak a man on campus. It is virtually impossible, as visitation is tightly monitored, and most dorms only have one way in and out outside of an emergency. It is best to just try to walk the straight line.

Campus police are very strict. My freshman year, two girls were caught with weed, and it was a big deal. They were immediately reprimanded. The immediate response shows they are serious. |

They are strict, but if someone wants to do something, they will find a way. It isn’t hard to bring alcohol on campus. |

I don’t think they are really strict. They don’t check your rooms like they say. I think people can get away with it. I know over at Morehouse guys would have a lot of drinks in their rooms. |

As far as campus police are concerned, you can’t walk on campus with an open bottle. If they see someone with stuff, they will stop them. |
