Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Dining off campus seems to be the way to go for many Spelman women. With dining halls offering limited choices and hours, students generally choose to make the voyage to their favorite restaurants. There seem to be quite a few places to get a quick bite to eat near the campus, but for sit-down dining, students have to go farther away from campus. Soul food is a general favorite among the student body, and there is no shortage of places to find it in Atlanta. Students also seem to gravitate toward pizza joints. Almost every student mentioned Slice or Fellini’s as the best place to pick up a snack at almost all hours of the day and night. For students who want a little more menu variety after midnight, City Café, Landmark Diner, and R. Thomas are all open 24 hours a day. Atlanta provides a wide variety of restaurants with entrees that are sure to please even the most discriminating taste buds. The biggest issue for students would be finding the transportation to get there. It would probably be helpful if there were more options closer to campus. However, students, led primarily by a craving for better tasting food, use public transportation and cars to get to a place that is more pleasing than what they would find on campus. From the most daring of diners to the most discriminating, Atlanta has room at the table for everyone.

Depends on Where You Want to Go

It really depends on where you wnat to go and how long you want to wait. There's a lot. Within a mile, there's a Burger King, and across the street fom it is a Paschal's. Cheesecake Bistro? Tin Drum? Anything. And almost everywhere delivers to our school.

Off Campus Food

Atlanta has a lot of places to eat at if you can get to them MARTA is OK if you learn how to use it and have the patience, but it's best to have a car or know someone that does. Around campus there is Taco Bell, Popeye's, and an American Deli most give student discounts. There are also a lot of places that deliver to Spelman too. No matter what you are feeling you can usually get it for a good price. I like eating off campus or ordering in when I have the extra money.

What to Eat

There are about 8 fast food restaurants that are in walking distance of the school. These restaurants are affordable but the area is not the safest to walk through. Most people drive to restaurants that are downtown since the school is only about 5 minutes from downtown.
