Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Atlanta doesn’t have the nickname HotLanta for nothing! When you arrive for the fall semester, chances are, it will be blazing hot with temperatures in the 80s and 90s. Towards the end of the fall you will want to change into warmer attire. Many students wear sweats to class, but there are some occasions where you will have to attend mandatory freshman functions that will require you to wear business or business-casual clothing. On the weekend is mostly up to you, but one thing to note is that on Friday the campus hosts an outdoor market in the Student Center. If you are a trendsetter or you like to express yourself through what you wear, make sure to bring your best looks and save them for Market Friday. The winter can be underestimated, especially by those students who come from the North and think that they don’t need to cart down any of their winter sweaters or coats. You may not need to wear thermal underwear, but you will likely need a jacket with a little weight to it and boots during the winter. Spring is a time for colorful sundresses and skirts. The winter can be overcast and dreary, so when the sun comes back out most Spelman women welcome it with their best fashions. One item you need to always have as an optional part of your wardrobe is an umbrella. Atlanta gets much more rain than anyone ever expects.

Spelman College Weather

Coming from Ohio the weather in Atlanta is a nice change to me. It stays warmer in Georgia during the winter months longer than Ohio. The weather can change a lot, which can cause sickness. I just have to make sure I look at the weather before I leave my dorm.

Unpredictable

Atlanta Weather is VERY unpredictable! Some weeks, you will experience all four seasons. It tends to be very hot the first few weeks, but the best weather is after that period and early march when the weather heats up. I advise you pack all seasonal wear with you when you come.
