Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

St. John’s diverse population of students are drawn to the campus from across the United States and around the world. More than 18,000 students are enrolled at the five campuses, with 14,229 of them being undergraduates, representing 38 states and 148 foreign countries. Less than half of St. John’s student body is white.

One of the best things about St. John’s is its diversity; St. John’s has one of the most diverse student populations in the country and supports a wide variety of student groups and organizations that caters to all race, religions, and interests. There has been some negative reaction to this, however. Because of the increased diversity, many students accuse the University of placing more weight on race and ethnicity than grades. Whether or not that claim has any basis on truth, the city of New York is in and of itself a gigantic melting pot where all cultures have an opportunity to learn from each other. Diversity is inescapable on and off campus, and students are learning to not only deal with one another, but to appreciate each other’s cultures (some are learning faster than others).

Extreme Diversity :)

True to Native New York, St John's encompasses an extremely diverse student population. Lines are extremely blurred along race/color, and to a lesser extent, but still significant, along religion and economic backgrounds.

With all this diversity visible, however, it would be nice to see a greater representation reflected in smaller peer groups as most cliques tend to be comprised of members of similar backgrounds.

Diversity

Very Diverse...but frankly, who really cares? Colleges put a lot of attention into diversity, but for no real reason. Most people 18-22 can get along with anyone, regardless of their backround...but St. John's "Prides" itself in diversity, you'll see it in every pamphlet, and poster

Diversity

There is so much diversity on campus that everyone can find a place to fit in, and for those who really dont want to fit anywhere they are not forced to do so.
