Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Despite the fact that drugs are not a visible threat, they are definitely still used on campus. Most students smoke or drink in their dorm rooms or at campus parties. Many students drink or smoke because they feel that it is the way to have a good time or because of the stress associated with school. These activities are hardly done out in the open. Even though many people know what is happening, it is kept on the hush. One of St. John’s policies is that when students are sharing a room, if one roommate is caught in possession of alcohol, all of the roommates are fined.

As with most other major universities, drugs are available if you want them, but they won’t be pushed on you. In fact, drugs are somewhat of a well-kept secret at SJU. Those who use them are scared enough of the police to stay hidden in their dorms but not so scared that they don’t use them at all. Exploring drugs is a personal decision, and certainly someone who chooses to stay away from them cannot be faulted. But if you think you are going to SJU in New York City to escape drugs entirely, you are unfortunately mistaken.
