Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

St. John’s has successfully incorporated fraternities and sororities as part of its campus life since 1956. And the tradition of 50 years shows itself in many aspects of the student body. Greek life is, for those involved in it, a great experience and full of opportunities. Greeks on campus organize fundraisers and social activities to enhance the college experience of all of their members. Students in fraternities and sororities say that going Greek helped them to meet tons of people and give them a truly unique experience.

However, the Greeks are not that visible on campus except in the University Center where they seem to dine often. They throw parties here and there, but nothing on a regular schedule. Some students claim to not even know the Greeks exist at times. Also, the fraternities and sororities are reluctant to give out information unless you attend their meetings, which are mostly in the late hours of the night. Some students have suggested that the Greeks promote their own events more. It could only help them receive more members. Even without changes in the system, Greek life is sure to continue thriving at the level it always has at SJU. The students in fraternities and sororities are committed to their organizations and have vested interests in promoting them.

Greek Life

It is very popular at our school but not like other schools. It is downplayed I'm guessing because it is a Catholic University. There is no Greek housing what so ever and the type of events that Greeks hold are more community service based or educational rather than fun or entertaining events.
