Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Each hall council is given $3,000 to $5,000 each year. Many times the student-run councils use the funding to provide free or discounted tickets to major New York City events. Some past events have taken students to Yankees games, museums, and Broadway shows. The Office of Campus Activities provides numerous independent programming efforts and services throughout the year, including trips to New York City for theater, sports, and other cultural events. There’s always something going on in the city.

Since St. John's is so close to the heart of where everything is happening (Manhattan), there are always new activities to try out. All students have to do is seek out, either by themselves or preferably with a group of friends, the endless opportunities. There is always something to do from just sipping coffee in Greenwich Village to catching a Broadway show to simply hanging out with friends—you can never be bored. The students need to realize that excitement won’t just fall into their laps; if they check around for on- and off-campus activities, there's more than enough to keep them occupied.

Greek Parties on Campus

The best night life activities on or around campus are usually put on by fraternities or sororities. This is also good because it's not necessarily 21 and up. Other than that, there isn't too much around campus unless a friend lives there. The best bet is to head into the city to a club, which would mostly be 21 and over without exceptions.

Parties

If you don't go to Manhattan then you will be so over the night life close to campus. There is not that many bars and no clubs are really that close.

Organization Parties

Many organizations throw parties, usually on-campus. Most of the time, all students are welcome, possibly for a small fee. Some parties are held off-campus; these will be the ones that have alcohol. Because St. John's is a dry campus, parties with alcohol must be held off-campus.
