Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The Office of Residence Life has put resources together in order to help make the students’ transition to off-campus housing as smooth and as easy as possible. Traditionally, renting an apartment is the most popular housing option. Other housing options may include apartments, house shares, sublets, and even basements or attics.

Off-campus housing is a necessary option for many upperclassmen that were not picked to live on campus during the lottery. The major problem with off-campus housing is that St. John’s does not investigate the premises before the students move in. Also, the department that handles off-campus housing is not a really a department, but there is a bulletin board where landlords come and post their rooms. The people working in this building are not of much assistance because they don’t know anything about the places or who is really putting up these ads. The students who are interested would have to go into the University Center and take the necessary steps on their own—it does not seem safe at all to some. Many students request that St. John’s regain ownerships of institutional- owned apartments that have security guards who would take an additional step in ensuring student’s safety.

Cheaper Than Dorming

Renting an apartment with friends/other people is definitely much more cheaper than living on campus. There are a lot of fliers around campus looking for roommates to live in apartments nearby. Parking is relatively decent. Safety depends on the neighborhood you choose to live in.

St. John's Off Campus Housing

The off campus housing and apartments are great. The Coolidge apartment complex, apartments available to upper class men through St. John's, really impressed me. These apartments are not only immaculate with brand new floors and appliances, but you feel very safe because the building is accessible to residents only. You get the privacy and freedom that isn't available in the dorms but you can still travel to and from campus thanks to the school's shuttle bus which travels hourly

Plenty of Spots If You Look for the Right Thing

There are a lot of homes that are renting out a solo room and not just a whole house, therefore you have to ask around ot see if anyone is renting just a room which would be cheaper than getting your own apartment.
