Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The Office of Residence Life has put resources together in order to help make students’ transition to off-campus housing as smooth and as easy as possible. Traditionally, renting an apartment is the most popular housing option. Other housing options may include apartments, house shares, sublets, and even basements or attics.

Off-campus housing is a necessary option for many upperclassmen that were not picked to live on campus during the lottery. The major problem with off-campus housing is that St. John’s does not investigate the premises before the students move in. Also, there is no real "department" that handles off-campus housing, but there is a bulletin board where landlords come and post their rooms. The people working in the Office of Residence Life are not of much assistance because they don’t know anything about the places or who is really putting up these ads. The students who are interested would have to go into the University Center and take the necessary steps on their own—it does not seem safe at all to some.

Nab a Deal

It's cheaper than dorming, much cheaper, but be prepared for stressful last minute shopping. That's when all the deals come out.

Better Than on-Campus

Off-campus housing is terrefic. Costs range from 2500-3000 for up to 5 bedroom houses. There located in very friendly environments where interacion with neighbours who are more than likely other students is abundant. Students can bunch ogether and share he costs for the entire rent and enjoy great service from the landlords
