College Prowler Take
There are several means of transportation to get students around the city. There are buses for local routes. Subways can get you to any of the other boroughs. And the railroad can take you out of the city for a break from all of the hustle and bustle. Transportation is affordable, runs frequently, and connects with other means of transportation, which makes it possible to get basically anywhere in the city. There are several different routes that students can take to get on and off campus. Even though the fares went up, and may go up even more, it is still worth it to take public transportation. Plus, it’s good for the environment. It is not advised for students who are not familiar with the transportation to ride alone. It’s best to have a friend show you the ropes before you head out solo, because more than like, you will get lost. Riding alone can be dangerous at times, especially late at night. To all non-New Yorkers, be warned, you may get turned off by the constant cramming, loud school kids, graffiti drawings, and odor of public transportation, But then again, that’s all just part of the experience. People travel from all over the world to fly around the streets in a wild taxi or pack themselves into a crowded subway car. It’s authentic New York.

One of the best things about St. John’s is that public transportation is readily available and accessible; a big concern, especially since I am a commuter student and I would hate to be stuck and have no way to get home. |

I prefer driving; the buses and trains smell horrible. Also, they are always raising the prices of the buses and trains; it’s cheaper just to pay for on-campus parking. |

Before getting on the buses or trains, get a schedule because you will get lost easily since it can get confusing sometimes, especially for those that are not from around here. By the St. John’s building, in the International Room, they have maps for every borough of New York, free of charge. |

I love it—New York is too busy to drive; you are bound to get into an accident if you are driving around the city. Save time and get on a bus or a train. |

Public transportation is way better than parking, but public transportation is just a little crammed and stinky. Also, it can be noisy at times, but if you can deal with it, it’s definitely a better option. |
