Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

For the most part, fall semester usually starts off warm then gets cooler, and the spring semester is usually cold and then gets warmer. Still, the weather varies within the semesters, so overall, the student doesn’t know what to expect. The campus does seem to be chillier than the other surrounding areas because of the various trees and the sloping hills. During the winter, the winds can literally make you feel like you are going to fall back when you are going up the hill. The best advice is to keep a small umbrella, and if possible, a light jacket or sweater for unexpected events.

Above all else, be prepared—and not just for Mother Nature. The buildings at St. John’s University can alter your wardrobe drastically. Say for instance it is 30 F outside. You would want to bundle up, right? But now keep in mind that you are going to a classroom with a heater on overdrive—what do you do then? Or, another example: It’s a nice 70 F outside, but your classroom is mysteriously colder—what then? SJU and New York weather have all kinds of surprises in store, so stay alert, stay well-dressed, and stay on the go.

The Affects of the Local Weather

The local weather has a variety of different days. Some days its sunny, snowing, rainy, foggy. You can basically name every possible weather/climate that have been around has been on campus. The walking from building to building can be a pain, but they do have underground tunnels which are extremely helpful from getting one side of campus to the other. The only way it affects my campus experience would be the parking and traveling across its big campus.

Poor

Since the campus was originally a golf course, in the winter months it is very difficult to get around the campus in bad weather conditions because of the hills

Typical New York Weather

I'm from Southern California and so I thought I would have a great amount of difficulty adjusting to the cold weather but it really hasn't been that bad. It's November 25th and I can still walk outside with my football shorts and a pullover and be fine. However it hasn't snowed yet sooooo yeah. Overall the weather hasn't affected me at all.
