The best way to get around is to bring a car or catch a ride with a friend. SLU has an online ride board where students can offer or request rides, but it is hardly ever used. The Partridge Café doubles as the town's bus station, serviced by Adirondack Trailways and Greyhound bus lines. However, the only major cities these buses go to are Syracuse and New York City. Before and after breaks, SLU offers its own bus to Albany, Hartford/Springfield, and Boston, and another bus to Syracuse, Binghamton, Pocono Summit, and New York City. The prices range from $60 to $120 round trip. Students can also request a shuttle to an airport, train depot, or bus station in Syracuse, Ottawa, Montreal, Watertown, Ogdensburg, Saranac Lake, Brockville, and Massena. The shuttle can be requested for the following circumstances: at each break; once during the semester for personal use; once for seniors for an interview; and an unlimited number in the case of a family emergency. Not many students use the shuttle because it takes a significant amount of planning and often goes very early in the morning.
The lack of local transportation isn’t a daily issue, since there is little to do off campus. To go into Canton, most students ride a bike or walk. However, the distance from major airports, bus stations, and train depots, along with the limited options of campus transportation to these centers, is inconvenient over breaks.
