No one pines for Greek life at Olaf. Fraternities and sororities might be useful social tools on large campuses, but Olaf already is kind of like one big coed frat or sorority house. Odds are you are going to recognize, know, or even befriend a large part of the campus as it is, so you certainly don’t need some established social organization in order to meet people. If you’re looking for the opportunity to live in a house with all your friends, you can always get a place off campus or apply to live in an honor house.
The lack of Greek life at Olaf certainly doesn’t take away from the school’s contribution to the community. A large portion of the student body volunteers for some sort of community service. The only thing about fraternities and sororities that Oles may miss is the party scene that they normally bring with them, but even if the administration did start allowing Greek organizations—which they never would—that wouldn’t mean that they would also change the dry campus policy.
