Advice on Financial Aid
The most important tactic to receiving aid from Stanford is "Tell Them Everything 101." After you fill out the FASFA and the College Portfolio, Stanford will send your family a financial aid reward. If you are concerned that your family can't make this financial commitment, then talk to the Financial Aid Office; they look over your reward with you and listen to your concerns. While you may not get exactly what you want from the institution, financial aid advisers take the time to help you find other options.
Special Financial Aid Programs
"Zero Parent Contribution for Parents with Income Below $60,000" is a program where Stanford will not expect a parent contribution toward educational costs if a family income is below $60,000 a year. Another program, "Tuition Charges Covered for Parents with Income Below $100,000," makes sure parents within this income range will be covered with need-based scholarships, federal and state grants, and/or outside scholarship funds. Finally, families with higher income levels (up to $200,000) can also qualify for assistance if another family member is also enrolled in a college or university.
