Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The nightlife can be a lot of fun, especially with all the bars and clubs nearby. The great thing about local establishments is that they know Stetson and the students that come in. They try to accommodate the students, especially on college night, which is typically Thursday night. Now, this is really where you want to pay attention: The great thing is when you become of age to drink, try to schedule your classes so that you don’t have anything on Friday. That way, you won’t have to worry about an early class when you go out on Thursday nights. Another thing you don’t have to worry about is having a designated driver because everything that is local is only a few blocks away from the University. But as always, drink responsibly. There are some places that you will definitely need a designated driver if you plan on visiting and drinking. The closest place outside of DeLand to go out is Daytona Beach. There are a few clubs and bars, namely the ones off of Beach Street. The problem with these clubs are that most are small or an acquired taste. The other place to visit is Orlando. Try to go with someone who has already been to the bars and clubs there, as the roads in downtown Orlando can be very confusing. Above all, remember to be responsible and have a good time.

Nightlife at Stetson

There are a few places that are available for you to go for night life. There is Bill and Franks which is a nice establishment in down town DeLand, within walking distance of campus. There is Ace of Clubs which as good music to dance to and a balcony outside to sit and socialize while cooling off. The campus also offers events on the weekends, generally movies are played and sometimes other events, like last semester Stetson brought the Buried Life to campus and that was fun and not what I had expected. Transportation is really not needed if you are to stay down town, but if you are looking for a little more Orlando and Daytona are within less than an hours drive.

Brickhouse

Unless you like sports bars/dive bars, you're gonna hate the nightlife in Deland. Brickhouse is probably the most popular place to be in Deland. All Stetson students go there mostly Thurs, Fri & Sat night. Every other night will be locals & townies. Drinks are cheap here & be sure to try the raspberry margaritas--ask for TJ to make them :) There's also some new "club" on Woodland Blvd called Ace of Clubs & all of Stetson has been going there. Goodcompany is another popular hang for the Stetson kids. Those are basically the three spots people go to. Not much going on here it's pretty miserable. If you wanna go to an actual club you have to make the drive out to Orlando (roughly 45min). Daytona Beach bars/"clubs" I heard are pretty trashy...OH, & for those of you that are under 21, fear not because Deland bars would go out of business if they actually carded anyone. Drink your little hearts out ;)

Low Choice of Bars

The night life usually involves the Greek community and Frat parties or Sorority socials. These are generally very succesful and available to all ages. There are also other activities organized by student organizations, such as movie nights, game nights, kareoke, cultural events, food fairs, etc. There are only about two bars that are very popular, but if you're of age, there are many underground hangout taverns that are very enjoyable.
