Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Off-campus housing isn’t all that bad. After researching, there are several areas that are great to choose from. The main thing to remember is location, location, location. The closer to campus, the better for obvious reasons like time and safety. The crime rate is also something to consider. In the area of Brandywine, the crime rate is higher than in Deland, and the area is not suitable for most college students. However, apartments located near Amelia Avenue and Stetson have a better reputation. Working off of reputation is looking at whether the apartment’s worth the price. Another major thing to keep in mind is where you’ll be able to do laundry. There are some things to remember beyond the location. When renting a place outside of on-campus housing, the rent is not included in the tuition. This may come to a surprise to some students as it is assumed that the living nearby could be partially paid for in some way. At Stetson at least, it is not. The best way to pay for off-campus housing is to have roommates, a personal loan for living expenses and rent, or a job that can actually cover all of the expenses that may come around. Just remember to budget and keep within it.

Very Little That Isn't Campus Housing.

The campus housing and apartments are decent in number, but geographically they are the best place to live. Commuter parking is low and the residence halls surround the central campus area. The nearest apartments that the school does not own are a car ride away, but you have to get through town first.

Off Campus Housing

In the DeLand area you can find some really good apartments, that look good and are affordable for the working college student. There is even one apartment complex that is only a mile away from stetson and directly down the street from it.

Convenient and Affordable

The availability and convenience of off-campus housing is excellent due to how close all the off-campus apartments and homes are to the school. The cost is low depending on where you want to move to, but everything is affordable for the most part.
