Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking is the one of the biggest problems that need to be fixed on campus. The growing number of those accepted to Stetson has forced students to park out of their designated areas. The problem is that the University gives out too many parking decals and does not offer enough spaces. An added problem results from poor sectioning of parking. For instance, C parking is clearly developed for the two dormitories of Conrad and Stetson and some of the sororities, but it’s too wide of a range for parking as Carson and Hollis halls are included in this zone. Besides that problem, there is the task of trying to maintain the parking lots themselves, which need to be repaved or paved in the first place, especially in areas near Nemec and Emily halls. But, all is not lost when it comes to parking. The good news, about all, is that there have been discussions about improving the parking situation. Maintenance on the parking lots themselves is slow but steady. The worst areas are around Nemec, while the rest of the parking lots are still decent but not perfect. Hopefully, something will be done to improve the overall look and functionality of the current parking lots.

Horrible!

They are slowly eliminating parking to restrict the number of student drivers, which is DISGUSTING! Students that have cars and licenses should have every right to drive. Not to mention that it was forbidden to drive to class, so on rainy days my books got ruined and I couldn't even sell some of them.

No Car, No Worries.

It would be nice to have a car for weekend excursions, but really it isn't necessary. Dorms are close enough to your classes, just walk! If you just can't walk, bring your longboard or rent a bike. Stetson offers free bike rentals through the Student Government Association, and they are installing longboard racks on campus. I'm from out of state, so I left my car at home. Almost everyone at Stetson is from Florida. Guess what? They brought their cars. Also, we have commuters. If you do bring your car, get a permit and park where you're supposed to. If you don't, P-Safe will give you a ticket. If you commute: you can usually find parking but you may need to walk a little ways. You will learn where you can park without getting ticketed, and you will get by.

Improving

The parking on campus is in the process of improving its availability for commuters and residents. All parking is in open areas and not side parking. Unless you are a commuter, you do not need a car on campus.

Facts

Getting a Parking Permit

Parking is pretty limited on campus, so there aren’t enough spaces to make Stetson University a “driving campus.” Resident students and commuters are both able to obtain a parking permit for $70. Although a student may register a vehicle on campus, this does not guarantee a parking space.

Best Places to Find a Parking Spot:
Around the dorms on the weekends.

Good Luck Getting a Parking Spot Here:
Anywhere in the C parking lots. This is central of campus, and has the most dorm residents that can park in C parking.
