Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Transportation in DeLand fits for a town of its size. There isn’t a major need for taxis to be on the road looking for passengers. There also isn’t really a need for a lot of bus stops, although there are a few dotting the area of DeLand. The rest of local transportation is handled by Amtrak—if you could call that local—and Greyhound. Those two systems of transportation can get anyone anywhere, from the next town to the next state. This might be helpful for those without a vehicle on campus. For national and international travel, the nearest airport is in Daytona. Daytona’s airport can handle some decent air traffic, but it won’t suit all. The best airport to use is definitely Orlando. The way to the airport is very important because for the most part it includes a lot of tolls, which can be a pretty hefty price to pay when taking or picking someone up. It’s also a heck of a lot shorter drive than going to the Tampa International Airport. The basic rule of thumb for airport travel is: If there isn’t a flight out of Daytona, then check with Orlando. Also, always remember to bring enough money for tolls.

Pro: Free Bikes to Rent. Cons: Airport Shuttle Sucks

Deland is small, and the campus is very easy to get around without a vehicle. I walk everywhere. Cars are nice if you want to go to the beach or to Orlando, but I really don't think it's worth the costs. Stetson will provide you with free bikes through SGA that you can rent for 2 weeks at a time. Unfortunately, when you need to find transportation to the airport, you may run into obstacles. Friends might not want to take the time and spend the gas. Most students are Floridians, so us non-residents are kind of left to fend for ourselves and find our way to the airport. Stetson does offer shuttles at the end of the semester, but they aren't really conveniently scheduled. They want you to be off campus when your finals are over, but the shuttles are scheduled for two days after all of my finals are finished. I will be out of here 2 days before the few shuttles are scheduled.

Transportation

A lot of things are in walking distance but there are a lot of disadvantages of not having a vehicle. There is not enough parking for the students who do have cars but its inconvenient not to have one.

What Transportation?

Frankly, I think I've seen a couple of bus stops on North Woodland as it runs past campus. I've never actually seen a bus there though. It's a two lane road so it would stop traffic completely, no question. I personally have my own car and have since I was a freshman. I've never had to use a bus around campus and I don't know anyone who has. If you are just trying to get around campus from one class to another, you don't need transportation. All of the buildings are easily within walking distance of each other.
