College Prowler Take
Weather is weather, and everyone likes different weather. The biggest problem with Florida is that it virtually has one season. The days are warm or hot with frequent rain. Of course, there are the risks of a hurricane coming through, which DeLand has seen before. During past hurricanes, Stetson University had substantial damage. Hurricanes are the worst of the weather that will happen, though the heat and humidity can be rough. At times, the heat can reach up into the 90s with humidity hitting from 75 percent to 100 percent. These conditions can really kill a student who might not be used to the harsh conditions, especially on move-in day or when going between classes.
Aside from the negatives, there is a great upside to such weather. Being that it is Florida, this hot weather is great for those who love going to the beach, which is only a 15-minute drive away. Beach lovers will appreciate this weather since they will be able to go to the beach well into fall. The cold weather is spotty and hits hard from December through late February. Remember to pack for summer-like weather, but also bring a few winter clothes for when the time comes.

It’s too hot for my taste. I can’t stand how there isn’t any fluctuation in the weather. It’s either hot or wet. It doesn’t even really get cold down here. It can get windy, and that makes it seem cold, but it’s not like I’m going out wearing 10 layers of clothes. |

No matter how many puddles I dodge, I always end up getting my pant legs wet or my sandals full of water. That seems to be the only downside of the weather here. I love the sunny weather, the constant temperatures, and the void of drastic climate changes that can occur with different seasons. |

I love how most of the time it’s sunny and I can go to the beach in Daytona or New Smyrna. It’s a constant beach day around here. Yes it rains, but it can’t rain all the time. |

I hate how when it rains too much, flash flooding occurs all across campus since there is no place for it to drain. And when walking to your car or your classes, you have to dodge puddles. |

The weather has taken a turn for...
The weather has taken a turn for the worse in Florida in the past few years. It seems that the hurricane season has to be expanded since more and more hurricanes are showing up later and later in the year. But on the plus side of the hurricanes, schools here have hurricane days just like northern schools have snow days. |
