Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

While some students show disappointment with the school’s facilities, professors, climate, and social scene, most come away from Binghamton with an overall positive opinion. More importantly, many have found a home at Binghamton, raving about the people they have met and the opportunities the school has provided. And why not? As a large and highly competitive public institution, Binghamton attracts a wide variety of talented students and faculty. No matter what you are interested in, you will have an opportunity to explore it at Binghamton, as well as expand your experiences. The key is to get involved. Nobody is going to hold your hand and guide you through school, but if you search for even a short time, you are bound to find your place.

It is true that Binghamton is not a school for everyone. If you are looking for the atmosphere of a large party or athletics-oriented school or the hands-on attention of a small private school, you will not find what you are looking for at Binghamton. However, if you are looking for a balanced overall experience that combines strong academic pursuits with a lively social atmosphere, Binghamton might be a great match for you. Add to this the affordable price tag, and you have one of the best bargains around.

Be Careful What You Wish To Major!!!

While I attended BU as an undergraduate and graduate student, strongly believed after graduation accepting the fact that most employers will not hire you after immediately following graduation; however I would land a job in my field within 6 months. Never happened! It has been 5 years since I graduated and still I am looking for a job to date with my degree. I started at the onset of job searching with a jobs applied list with a numerical count on the number of jobs I have applied for since I graduated. Now the list is a test to see how long it will take for me to have a job. To date of this post, 407 applied jobs I have submitted job applications too. Considering to get into the Guinness Book of World Records to apply as the longest person since graduation without getting a job. Been to BU CDC a few times in the past and with some resume work as this is necessary first step for the job hiring process;, their services did not aid me in my career endeavors over time. Note that I was an "A" student with a good record. I hear everyone telling me the economic downturn ("Great Recession") played a big part at the time of my graduation for hiring - true. However, my education has not been of any use. My student loan is out of control now! Many of the instructors and professionals at BU now avoid me when we cross paths for reasons I believe my jobless record reflects negatively on the high academic excellence of BU. I have had some serious soul career searching to do! A word to the wise for those entering the college arena: Be very careful what you choose for a career major at BU (or anywhere for that matter) and factor into your decision these hard times we live in!!!

Ivy League Academics, Party School Social Scene, Cheap Price.

When people ask me why I chose Binghamton, I give them the answer most students do; I wanted to go to an ivy, but didn't get in and honestly, I'm happy I did. The students here and academic experience is basically the same as any of the Ivy League schools; in fact, most of the professors also teach at Cornell due to it's close proximity. I have a lot of friends who picked Binghamton over our Ivy League counterparts due to the value. Also, academic rankings always have Binghamton in the top percentile, especially the School of Management. In my opinion, we should be ranked better, especially academically compared to schools like Penn State and University of Maryland, however we lack the name recognition at this point; I'd say we're on par with UVA and Chapel Hill. And of course, at our price, you literally can't beat it!

Social wise, I have personally gotten involved in Greek Life and loved every minute of it. Greek Life doesn't necessarily run the school, but is definitely the focus of the social scene during the weekend. Most people will go to fraternity parties and then the bars after, most located on State Street. IF drinking isn't your thing, the campus boasts many things for you to do; Late Night, a bowling ally, billiards club and movie theatre with arcade. There's always something going on and something for you to get involved with.

The Binghamton area is no where near as bad as people say. As someone who comes from Long Island, I can honestly say, while Binghamton and the surrounding area may be a new experience, it is in no way painful to experience. There's a lot to do during the day and dozens of places to go for food, entertainment and shopping. And another thing, the weather isn't as bad as other say too. We're usually 10 degrees colder than Long Island in the winter and 10 degrees warmer in the summer and in the last 2 years, have had barely any snow!

Overall, the only negative thing g about the school is that we don't have a football team. After a month here, you quickly forget that and decide going to a soccer game and other sports will do! I love it here and would find it very hard to go anywhere else.

Why I Would Choose Binghamton Again

Binghamton University is a very science and business based school. Since I am a science major, I can easily get along and have a conversation with most of the students and faculty that attend and work at Binghamton. The day and night life vary every day, which I also enjoy. I never had problems while I was here except for a short spurt of homesickness in the beginning. Meeting new people and learning new things decreased my need to be home.
