UPD, the university police department, are there to help when needed. But for the most part they don't go looking for parties to bust. If something is blatantly obvious and dangerous they will intervene and there will be consequences.

Ever since a death on campus involving alcohol several years ago and the hazing issue with the women's volleyball team last year, the campus police have been stricter. However, I would say that you can still get away with plenty. Just be discrete!

Police are everywhere on campus due to a NYS grant caused by the death of a young man. Just about everyone feels safe. It's such a small campus. It's like a family to most.

Wow, I'm surprised at all the positive reviews here. If you are living on campus, don't expect your RAs or the public safety officers to be on your side. They will jump at the chance to write you up, or worse. Last semester, I was walking home and I literally saw a campus cop car following a girl as she walked back to her dorm, waiting for her to stumble so he could interfere (which he did). I was written up twice in my freshman dorm (and I was not drinking in the dorm nor did I have any alcohol on me) and arrested twice on campus before I transferred out. I am not a bad kid; I had never in my life gotten in trouble, but at Geneseo, it's their mission to get anyone not secured inside a Greek house in trouble with the school. They say they are concerned only with the safety of the students, but it's not true. I felt unsafe on the campus because of the campus police, who consistently threaten the students. The conduct board is not generous or understanding, at all. The first time I was arrested I was on campus, sober, and a couple of my friends were arrested for trespassing. Then the school gave us a bill of $5000 for so-called damages to the area we were in, knowing full well that they could not prove it was us, but it would cost more for us to get a lawyer than it would to pay the "fee". If you're looking for that college experience where you can really express yourself and discover who you are, don't come to Geneseo. It is overrated. A majority of the student body is miserable and all they talk about is wanting to leave, but there is no where to go unless you transfer (the school is literally in the middle of no where, and the shuttle buses are inconvenient). You're forced into Greek life only because there is nothing left to do, and don't be fooled by the "no-hazing" policy. There is plenty of hazing going on at Geneseo. Just Google search "Geneseo volleyball team hazing arrest". Of course, not wanting to gain further bad publicity, as well as the fact that all the upperclassmen on the team were involved, they all got off with a slap on the wrist. You can't really trust Geneseo. They want to be the best SUNY, and will do whatever they can to secure that title, despite the interests of their students. The only commendable factor is the education, meaning the professors, but very sadly (and ironically) that is simply not enough.

Campus police are strict but fair. Lost my wallet and tehy contacted me right away about finding it.
