It only cost a few dollars for the bus and it will take you anywhere.
College Sophomore 2013-11-02T04:38:40Z
Parking usually isn't an issue. It is free in most spots and the cost for a permit isn't too bad in comparison to other campus's. Also, freshmen are allowed to purchase a permit which is unusual for a campus.

Im not the only one who loves it, NY rated it number 1 in food. Potsdam has an amazing dining experience and students complain all the time about the food, but that is mostly freshman who aren't used to being away from mother's cooking. However, it is by far the best dining experience you will have on a college campus. variety, unique, and all around good food. Not always the healthiest though.

Amazing! I would never choose anywhere else. Everything about it is great.

I have not been to very many games myself, but I know a lot of people who are on the teams and they love it. It's hard work of course but often time you are provided with personal trainers and the means to better yourself. They also have a great facility to work out in with lots of the latest workout technologies that are kept in top condition.

Health & Safety:
I have been in and out of the health center many times so I can speak from experience. They are super easy to get ahold of and set up appointments. They have great nurses, doctors, and staff. Also, they provide flue shots, the day after pill, and many others for extremely low prices, around only a few dollars. If they feel they can't help you they set you up with the hospital right down the road and are very helpful in doing so.

Guys & Girls:
It is a very holistic campus and therefore the students are down to earth and outgoing. I have yet to meet very many stuck up preppy people. I can remember walking to class and seeing groups of people just sitting under trees playing guitars and singing. A few walk barefoot and are total hippies and it is just a whole new experience. However, there are a lot of people from New York City and New Jersey so you do have that urban twist as well. It's a perfect blend.

excellent variety of off-campus dining, especially when it is such a rural campus and town.
College Sophomore 2013-11-02T04:13:54Z
The campus is lenient where and when it needs to be. It has it's own campus police that are friendly and helpful to those who need anything. They leave attendance to the students, if you want to be there then show up to class otherwise why should they care? you already gave them your money. If they find alcohol in the dorms they usually just give a few warnings but then if it is repeated you can be kicked off campus. respect them and they respect you.

The worst thing about potsdam is the weather. There is a joke you can experience all four seasons in one day at Potsdam and that is so true. It snows and rains on sunny days, and the winters are horrible. Also, they have trouble keeping up with all the ice and snow so just be careful! They have helped with that problem though in that all the academic buildings are connected so one doesn't even have to go outside.
College Sophomore 2013-11-02T04:03:33Z
The buildings are old yes, but they are the most beautiful places. They are all brick with ivy and winding pathways and beautiful lights and trees. The whole campus is the most enchanting place. The whole place is holistic and down to earth, it's just an amazing atmosphere. I visited most all the campuses in NY and a few in PA and potsdam can not even be compared as it is in a whole different category. Only a few frats but lots of spots houses. also, because there is only a few, it always people to be able to connect faster and easier as everyone tends to go to the same places.

If a student is taking a lab and wants a laptop to be able to take to class they can simply rent one at the library free of cost. There are many computer labs and the library is open extremely late to allow students to have all the time they need. The only bad thing I can say is that the printers always seem jammed and the wifi in the dorms never, ever works.
College Sophomore 2013-11-02T03:31:56Z
I am a biochemistry major with a neuropsychology minor and I love it. The professors are great, the programs are great and very easy to keep up with on BearDEN as it tells you what classes you need and all the specifics. The science are under renovation currently so things are a little confused but the labs have all necessary equipment and if not, they are willing to order it. The work depends on the professors, but all in all they are intensive, as they should be. They also offer a lot of internships and jobs and all a students needs to talk to an advisor to point them in the right direction
College Sophomore 2013-11-02T03:31:56Z
I have to admit i had a few Professors I didn't like, but all the rest I absolutely LOVED. Being a rural school, teachers are down to earth and willing to take all the time needed with students. However they are also people with a lot of experience and many have spent many years in other countries. The classes are fun and creative and there is such a wide range of classes to choose from to fill the same GenEd credit

Financial Aid is a nightmare everywhere. Potsdam provides easy access both online and on campus for students and parents to keep tract. They have started using ebill which lets you read your whole college bill with loans, grants, tuition, and scholarships all in one. However, it seems to take them awhile to enter information into computers and mail so if you receive notices saying you haven't paid, try calling them before you pay any fees.

Guys & Girls:
The average BMI of SUNY Potsdam is very high compared to my current school. This is a rural attracting larger people. Some people I couldn't believe they were walking. I know it sounds bad but it really is how it is. The girls are usually the larger of the two and do not look too great as well as the guys (again rural and low application stats). They however are nice and accepting.

Needs refreshing in many areas but state funds are seriously low even 4 years after the financial crisis. The dorms in S.bowman really needs to be redone but they did add new bathrooms but will probably look bad in a few years because they cheeped out in some ways (regular paint near showers means peeling paint). The business building is old and small with windows from the 50's that when closed you can still feel the wind. Crane is pretty good however. The food courts are good though. Lots of parking.
College Sophomore 2013-09-03T04:17:30Z
I transferred out because this isn't an ideal business school and doesn't have an accounting program. I have not really had any issues with the professors and in fact, I really liked everyone I had there. They were beyond equipped to teach and had high degrees (usually a PHD and a ton of experience) that they provide a great learning experience. What I didn't like were the students who many seemed to not take classes as seriously as they could. The students didn't seem 100% in taking the classes seriously (I have experienced in a few ungrad classes).

You walk everywhere since it's such a small campus. Getting to home and school is the tricky part so you either get a car or ride a bus (sorta expensive ticket with odd hours). The cars are subjected to the harsh cold winters and your brakes will stick hard. Getting home and back in winter is very unsafe in a car but it's really the only way. Not to mention the roads are rural most of the way around so it's fast speeds with no median and big trucks are everywhere.
College Sophomore 2013-09-03T04:08:05Z
Most are of a lower economic level but there is a lot of diversity but still white dominated which is to be expected in a rural area.
College Sophomore 2013-09-03T04:06:16Z
Always taken at the library but there is one across from it where they are pretty much always open. All Macs but can run Windows if you want.
College Sophomore 2013-09-03T04:01:59Z
Not many and they aren't strong. After a few laws were passed there greeks lost a lot of power.
College Sophomore 2013-09-03T03:58:48Z
Never did anything bad really. I can speak for my roommate and a girl who was three doors down. My roomie had a fake ID and was caught buying booze but really nothing came out of it. The girl was puking because she was somewhat drunk but she wasn't charged with that either so I'll give it a B. I know they don't tolerate marijuana to well though because every day the police blotter shows them trying to find people smoking.
College Sophomore 2013-09-03T03:56:44Z
Great if you're into unhealthy options. Healthy options are becoming more common but it still lacks. Becky's was my favorite and I'd walk a mile to go there 3 times a day.

Health & Safety:
Located far from a major or even really small city means it's a bit more safe. The police are active but there aren't much blue phones. Ice is the most dangerous thing on campus (there is a lot of it). I never really felt unsafe on campus.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
