Lots of Different Ethnicities.

One of the largest reasons I came to Stony Brook was the diversity-- I wanted to learn about other cultures. I believe it is one of the most diverse campuses that exist. The diversity, however, ended up being a major problem with students really getting to know each other. It seems like every race ends up just hanging out with people they are most familiar, and it creates a problem making friends. In the West Apartments, many times, a person can find themselves living with 4 people that won't even speak English in front of you unless it is specifically asked of them.

Average

Police are pretty strict with tickets and such but otherwise it is pretty easy to get on campus and get away with anything. Academic wise, there is no joke. If you do terribly one semester, they give you a warning but after that you get on probation and then automatic suspension from the school.

Professors are amazing

All the professors are very friendly and approachable. They love to talk and interact with students. They are very open and understanding. Also, all our academic programs are amazing. People think we are only good in Biology and engineering but all our programs are strong. The Poltical science, Economics, and Business fields at Stony Brook is very underrated. The number one major at Stony Brook is Business Management.
