Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The drug scene at Albany correlates with the crowd you roll with. If you’re against the use and have no desire to be around drugs, it’s fairly easy to stay away. However, it’s just as easy to get your hands on some. The drug scene is basically what you make of it. Like any other school, the most common “drug” is alcohol, which is significantly harder but 100 percent possible to avoid. It’s quite common to see many a drunken student stumble from his or her dorm room pre-game session to the nighttime shuttle downtown. If this isn’t your style, the University has a program known as "Danes After Dark," which offers alternative activities for the weekends, such as billiards, movies, foosball, and more.

The most popular drug utilized, besides alcohol, is definitely marijuana, being one of the easiest and cheapest to buy. The smell of marijuana often lingers in the hallways of buildings and outside by picnic tables at night. Other drugs that are common at the University include ecstasy, mushrooms, acid, and cocaine. During finals week, Adderall and similar substances, such as Vyvanse and Ritalin, run rampant around the library, with desperate studiers binging on as many as they can afford. Though there definitely is a drug scene at the University, it’s certainly not overpowering, and it's your choice to decide if that’s your scene or not.

Drug Safety

Drug safety here in albany is not really big it honestly does depend on who you hangout with. there are people who dont do drugs but drink and people who do both and it is your choice who you decide to spend your time with.

Pretty Prevalent to Say the Least

One day as I'm walking to my car to head over to the gym, I happened upon a loud interesting conversation. One male student was talking with another male student. They were talking about how one of their friends was nearly caught with a doobie the other night. That they were having this conversation loudly and publicly struck me as odd.

My friend lives on another part of campus where there are constantly pot-smokers on the field nearby despite the fact that its near the college, the police department, and a high school. It seems odd that they are so publicly engaging in illegal behavior.

Rules Are Made to Be Broken

There are rules concerning drugs and alcohol usage on campus while the Resident Assistants adds additional rules that must be followed. Its not a big concern but I see people passed out most of the times, especially on the weekends. Drugs are huge but cigarettes are everywhere. Choose your friends, don't let them choose you.
