Although Greek life at Albany has always had a relatively small influence on the school, it seems to be gaining popularity. After a "Kegs and Eggs" incident, many people have been reluctant to throw parties in fear of the cops. However, Greek life has continued to host parties and have a great time, attracting more people and making them realize that Greek life is actually a lot more than what they thought it would be. Rush Week, occurring in the beginning of each semester, is when Greek life involvement and influence are at their peak. During the day, sororities and fraternities have tables set up in the middle of the Podium to answer questions and talk with those who have an interest in joining. At night, there are themed mixers, such as highlighter parties and paint parties. These events are open to everyone interested, but after Rush Week, they are only for members.
Greek life isn't like what you see in the movies. If you imagine large, white houses with Greek letters adorning the front door, then it's time to face reality. Though most of the sororities and fraternities have their own houses, they're located downtown in the "student ghetto" and are far from pretty white houses. Most fraternities and a few of the sororities are unrecognized by the school, meaning no letters embellishing the houses, and more importantly, no financial support. Thus, the houses are rundown and old. However, the houses are mainly used for keggers, so the condition of the houses really aren't an issue for party-goers. There are also many diverse fraternities on campus, such as the business frat, marketing frat, and numerous cultural frats. Although these fraternities don't host wild parties or hold events during Rush Week, they are an important aspect of campus and pose as conglomerates for those with similar professional and cultural interests and outlooks.

Low-Key Greek Life
There are a number of Greek organizations on the campus but they don't dominate the social scene. There is no judgment if you do not join a Greek organization. Rush week is usually when you get the full effect of Greek life on this campus. You will often see the pledges around campus. They are pretty noticeable because they have particular outfits that they must wear everyday.

Little to None
Greek life is in only about 5% of the Ualbany population. It is not too known, and only other Greeks go to Greek parties. I am also not impressed with what sorority girls wear.
