Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

With Albany’s diverse makeup of students, it won’t be difficult to find someone you enjoy spending time with. Whether you’re looking for a hookup or a long-term relationship, there will be someone looking for something similar. Although it seems the majority of students aims for something more casual, there are plenty of students interested in forming a strong connection with that special someone. Many students come to college with boyfriends and girlfriends from home and make it work, while others decide they want to experience college without the pressure of a long-distance relationship.

Freshman girls beware! That older frat guy being nice and eyeing you up and down while he gets you a beer probably only wants to get in your pants. It’s a common occurrence for older guys to prey on younger girls—girls who don’t know them or their reputation yet. Be careful trusting guys you just meet because there are always a few just looking for a notch on their belt. However, there are tons of level-headed guys out there—from jocks to bookworms—who are great company to keep. As for the gentlemen, they will not be disappointed with the female population. There are a variety of girls at Albany, including (but not limited to): party girls, goody two-shoes, and your average plain Janes. It won’t be difficult to find one—or even many—to your liking.

Guys and Girls Are Ditsy

I say that the guys and girls are ditsy by the way they act and not necessarily their grades. It seems as though acting this way is considered cool among this population, but indeed, not by all.

Always Seem to Find the Dopes

Everytime I walk around campus, I never seem to find my friends. The school is so big that half the time I don't even know they attend the same school. What I do run into are the dumbest kids that attend this school.

For instance, going to the gym at peak hours is horrendous. You get people who don't care that other people want to use their machines. The girls are all dressed in tiny shorts and obviously don't care about working out so much as preening or texting on their phones while sitting at machines other people wish to use.

In terms of relationships and social life, I honestly have no clue. I brought in my own friends and have seen absolutely no need to find other people, or any desire to meet anyone on campus.

With a wide range of students due to the large population, you do find some attractive men, but not nearly enough to make it worthwhile. Those that are attractive tend to be extremely cocky and offputting due to this attitude. In terms of the gym idea, they are the ones wearing muscle shirts trying to lift weights and then letting them fall crashing to the floor because they were far too heavy for them to be lifting in the first place. Then they leave without cardio to go drink some protein shakes. Not my type of man to say the least.

Facts

Social Scene

Although UAlbany is a large school, the four quads are their own communities, consisting of about 2,500 students. These are the kids you’re going to see every day in the dining hall and on the way to class. What makes it even better is that the students living on Indian freshman year tend to go to Colonial their second year because they have slightly lower lottery numbers for housing. Similarly, most State Quad freshmen become Dutch Quad sophomores. Most students become closest with those they live with, and those relationships will last beyond sophomore year.

Hookups or Relationships?

There are many students that are in relationships with people from their hometown or other colleges. There is a large number of single students who are looking for either a hookup or a serious relationship. The opportunity to be involved in a relationship is present at Albany, but if you're just looking for a hookup, chances are, you can find one.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

Students are searching for Mr./Ms. Right everywhere, from classrooms to dorms, from frat parties to bars. Also, joining extracurricular activities, such as clubs and sports, is a great way to meet someone with the same interests as your own.

Dress Code

The school has a wide range of students who dress in a variety of ways. For class, most students just roll out of bed, put a hat on, and go to class in their pajamas. Comfort is definitely a top priority, especially for those early morning classes. On the other hand, you can definitely find girls decked out in skirts and Prada shoes, while some guys sport their Armani Exchange gear instead of wind pants and sweatshirts. Albany has its fair share of everything from hippies to trendies. When it's time to hit the bars, most everyone spends extra time to look their best. Some bars are less dressy, and you can find people rockin' out their jeans and favorite band's T-shirt, while others hooch it out, load on the makeup, and slap on extra cologne.
