Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Don’t be frightened by the amount of crime that takes place in Albany. Although the rates are relatively high, the University has taken extra precautions to keep students and the campus safe. Blue-lights surround the campus and are quite abundant, flashing bright at night for all to see. If you have a problem or need help, simply dial 911 on the blue-light phone, and an emergency response team will arrive shortly. Additionally, there is a program offered, known as “Don’t Walk Alone,” that allows students a peace of mind and an escort while walking alone at night. Just call the number, and someone will accompany you to your destination. UPD also sends out emails about any crime that happens downtown in order to inform students and protect them from enduring a similar fate. With your SUNY card, you can access your building 24/7 but only until 2 a.m. in other buildings in your quad. SUNY cards don’t work in any other dorm buildings that aren’t located in your quad. This helps reduce theft, intruders, and other crimes that can be committed in the dorms.

The health aspect of the University is state-of-the-art. The health center is located a short distance from campus, and a shuttle runs every half hour to transport students for free. Although this can be a pain when you’re rundown and sick and would rather have your mom bring you medicine and ginger ale, the health center makes up for its location with its advanced technology and great doctors.

Some What Safe

i feel safest in my suite when i have my friends around . there are times when people randomly walk in my suite by accident but what if one day some one walks in to harm some one in my suite. and the fire alarms are hazardous we have already hit the record of 60 fore alarms in one semester so when its the real deal people will die.

Personal Safety

There are many times when I am walking alone at night on campus and the lights are not on. When walking on the academic podium at night, it is virtually pitch black. It is impossible to see the person who is walking by you, behind you, or in front of you. The police are only on campus to give people parking tickets and to handle fire alarms.

Very Safe and Secure

I feel very safe on campus, there are blue light phones everywhere (emergency phones leading right to the UPD). Also, the UPD is always patrolling the campus and its pretty well lit. However, they are very strict with a no drinking policy because of Kegs and Eggs.
