Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The weather in Albany certainly isn’t one of the University's high points. For the first few weeks of school, the weather is still warm and beautiful, allowing students to play in the fountain and lounge under shady trees. Around mid-October, things take a turn for the worse. A dramatic drop in temperature and a pickup in wind velocity are enough to make a simple walk to the dining hall feel like a pioneer’s journey on the Oregon Trail—not only the students but also the campus itself goes into hibernation until around the end of March. The trees are dead, and the concrete structures blend in with the bleak gray skies. It’s almost impossible to think of class as a viable option when your bed is so cozy and Jack Frost made a visit the night before. For those brave souls ready to trek through the Arctic tundra to class, the underground tunnels are a great option. They’re warm and take you right inside the buildings you need.

When spring has finally sprung around April, everyone and everything comes back to life. The trees are green and healthy, the fountain is turned back on, and little pink and purple flowers sprout out of the ground. Temperatures range around the 50s and 60s. Everyone takes this time to enjoy the outdoors, whether it’s playing Frisbee on the quad or taking a walk by the pond.

Local Weather at Ualbany

Local weather really doesn't effect campus experience.. everything is still accessible and there are tunnels if you want to avoid walking outside in the snow/rain/cold

Ghetto Arctic

SUNY-Albany is also known as ghetto Antarctica due to the blistering cold weather from dec-april. But the weather does not affect going to class as much because there are underground tunnels that take you around the whole campus. The city and school janitors take care of clearing the sidewalks and pathways so you can make it to class and the snowplow man is very consistent in his line of work. There are occasions when classes do get canceled and it is more frequent than not. Weather does not affect those from partying.
