Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Some kids from New York City complain that you can’t find a good bagel or deli in Buffalo. That’s the only gripe you’ll hear from anyone who has experienced the local food. Buffalo is not one of the 10 most overweight cities in America by accident. Fine dining and cheap eats are both top-notch. There are dozens of classy restaurants, including adventurous new openings every year; though, except for the annual parents’ visit, cheap eating is the rule for most local students. Rumor has it that there are more pizzerias per capita in Buffalo than anywhere else. In keeping with the city’s Midwestern ethos, Buffalo pizza is made Chicago-style, with a thick, doughy crust. Sal’s and Zetti’s in the Heights cater to the New York-style pizza crowd, but thin-crust pies are hard to find in most parts of the city. Though chicken wings were invented at the Anchor Bar near downtown, many students say they have been perfected at Duff’s in Amherst. You know a place is serious when they tell you how hot the wings are by printing the Scoville units of each sauce in the menu.

Beef on weck sandwiches, made with roast beef and gravy on a salted kümmelweck roll, are as common as cheeseburgers in Buffalo. And students rave about Mighty Taco, a local Mexican chain that serves dirt-cheap tacos and burritos. Several places in the Heights offer a $0.99 or $1.99 breakfast, including Amy’s Place, where the Lebanese breakfasts often earn honors for best breakfast in town. Coffee shops are not as plentiful as they are in bigger cities. But Buffalo has some good ones, such as Coffee Bean in the Heights, which serves savory Creole food and a popular New Orleans Sunday brunch. Amherst’s wide suburban boulevards are peppered with your average chains like Fuddruckers and Outback Steakhouse and high-quality Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese restaurants. For some reason, though, there are relatively few good Chinese places. Buffalo could also use a few more 24-hour dining options and a couple of genuinely good delicatessens close to campus.

awesome options and so flexible

I would go out there and say this is probably one of the best food service contractors out there that runs U.B. Honestly I don't know who it is but they give you every option available to eat on campus. They don't force you to a dining hall and have so many options to select from. Jamba Juice,Tim Horton's, Somara Sushi, Au Bon Pan, Moe's, Edgie Veggie, Bravo Pasta all amazing just to name a few. Dining halls are great and there now building a brand new dining center that is going to feature 6 different rests. under one roof. I hear one concept is a Churrascarria, WoW can't wait til next year and they say you will order thru a touch screen and they will text your phone when your order is ready-that will be so so cool. My friends were in from UMass and they say we have the best options. I love CDS and hope your there forever cause I'm going to come back when I graduate.
