Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

From the overwhelmingly diverse campus culture to the odd architecture, UB takes some getting used to. But nearly all students say they’ve gotten a lot out of their four (or five, or six) years here, and many simply love the place. There are some institutional problems that get people down: administrative hassles, bland campus food, and rotten parking. The decentralized campus can lead to a diminished feeling of community. And the weather is a challenge to the spirit. But UB’s modern facilities and world-class computer network get high marks, and most UB students grow to appreciate the great academics, the friendly people, and Buffalo’s high quality of life.

UB has a great college experience waiting, but instead of gently offering it to you, it challenges you to “come and get it.” If you’re not intimidated by the diversity and the sprawling campus and if you get involved, you’ll have an eclectic and inspirational experience. Students say UB is no utopia, but it’s a lot of fun. And when it’s over, nearly everyone remembers it fondly.

Weather- Wise, Academically and Socially

the weather up there is extremely bipolar, can't trust it at all. Academically, the school is great. I've been lucky so far with my choices of professors, actually finding staff that cares about your education. However, socially I've been unfortunate to meet people who all seem to think alike.

Great Times, but the School Doesn't Care

I love the friends that I've made, and the school has so many opportunities to have fun. The school has a great variety of activities and clubs and it's hard to be bored.

However, it is very easy to fall through the cracks. No one is here to hold your hand and warn you how close you are to losing your scholarships. If you are not ready to be completely on your own then you shouldn't come here because the school is not very helpful to those who do not know what they are doing, especially when it comes to financial aid. Although the student response center responds to emails very quickly, most of the workers really do not give helpful advice. Many of the advisers are great, but many are very bad. The same goes for professors, many are here because they love to teach, but many are here solely for the research opportunities.

This school has many ways to be entertained, but it is also very easy to become distracted from your work, and therefore one must be able to prioritize well, and be extremely self-motivated to succeed here.

My overall experience at UB has...

My overall experience at UB has been terrific. UB offers unlimited opportunity in most everything you can be interested in. Academically, I have developed my interests and discovered new interests. Away from academics, UB has offered many enriching experiences, as well.
