It's There If You Want It

Weed and alcohol are extremely common and people rarely get busted for it (unless smoking or being too loud INSIDE of campus buildings) Aside from that it's pretty easy enough to get your hands on any other drugs but it isn't a huge part of campus life.

more than average

weed is big on campus. plenty get caught for smoking inside dorms. alcohol is a close second. weekend drunk bus. do not count out the coke and other pharmies either.

many greek options

most of the good parties are held by off campus frats. these are usually closed tho unless its rush week. on campus frats and sororities throw the open parties but don't go as hard because they aren't really allowed to. i think to pledge is a definite must in order to meet new friends and have an amazing time during your college career

Stampede

late night sucks and need to wait 1 hour if after 2am. buses often pass while waiting at stop.

Extremely Popular for Both Girls and Boys

You will always know someone who is pledging. There are many, many frats and sororities on campus. There are a few off campus, but many are on. They do not do much to better the school or to affect it and mainly keep to themselves. The biggest reasons for Greek Life at UB is for parties.

Greeks Socialize With Greeks

For the most part unless you know someone who is in a frat or sorority you won't know where they have they're parties or events. Unless it rush week. Either way it's not a big deal if your not a greek because there are still alot of student group options. They also throw parties as well.

Convenience

The on-campus transportation is very reliable and can be depended on when needed.

There for the Parties

Greek life is where the parties are. If there weren't greek life there would be no house parties, really. They are all very friendly and nice and while there are many typical sororities and frats you will find some that have good diversity.

Downtown

The Buffalo Bar scene downtown on Chippewa is excellant. Plus the bars are open until 4am!

Plenty of Computer Labs

There are many computer rooms, known as cybraries, all around the campus. You can always find an empty computer to use and the internet is pretty fast.

Decent

There is usually ALWAYS something going on. From downtown bars like Mojo's and Northside that are 18+ to frat parties and other open parties that are going on in the neighborhoods. there is always something happening. There is a few weeks during the semester that seem to be "dead weeks" these are usually due to exam schedules.

UB Rages

Here it seems as everyone is in a social group or relationship, and if your not your looked at as an outcast. But the best thing to do to fit in is keep up with the trend!

Convenience

There is a surrounding city area between the North and South campuses, but it is impossible to get to any of the restaurants conveniently without a car. There are campus buses that go within the vicinity but you'd still have a long way to walk to the restaurants. Since the buses only run on Wednesdays and Sundays, it isn't even possible to get to the restaurants on your own without a car on other days of the week. In addition, the restaurants aren't particularly worth the travel, either.

Strictness

kinda strict,but some are not. For example the school is non smoking school but everyone smokes. There are tons of rules, but nobody abides them

Campus Life

Everything on campus is very accessible- since all of the buildings on North are interconnected, you can get everywhere. Once you know where everything is, its no problem getting around

Transportation

Transportation to South campus is very easy for going out and to the parties around there. You can get into a lot of parties even before you are 21 too.

Lovely

the off campus apartments are very nice, but they are extremely hard to get into. UB looks at GPA and credit hours, you have to be a super genius to get into the apartments. There are some students that live in houses off campus in buffalo or nearby neighborhoods.

You Need to Be Grounded to Go to UB

If you are anything like me college will be a wake up call to the fact that you can't just coast through life or school for that matter. College is a place where you often have to teach yourself a lot of the material. Moreover since this is not a small school by any means do not expect a lot of personal help from the teacher, it is best to get to know your professor as much as possible so that if you do need help in a subject you can try and turn to them however sometimes this task seems futile and impossible. There are hundreds of different majors and classes so trust there is a lot to choose from. If you find yourself in academic trouble I will say there are many advisers you can see and even a lot of tutors try to get into EOP or CSTEP or any other organization that will get you free tutoring. However I have to put this bluntly no one repeat no one will baby you at this school. So get ready because if you go to UB you have just stepped into the real world! GOOD LUCK :)

UB Financial Aid

The key trick to receiving financial and or scholarships is to apply. Although I believe I received a less than average amount of financial aid and relied more on student loans, there are many possibilities and opportunities for students especially remaining in communication with student services at the unversity.

Weather- Wise, Academically and Socially

the weather up there is extremely bipolar, can't trust it at all. Academically, the school is great. I've been lucky so far with my choices of professors, actually finding staff that cares about your education. However, socially I've been unfortunate to meet people who all seem to think alike.

Nursing

super competitive, acceptance into the program is slim to none

Good at Accepting Others

There are many different people on campus, and I haven't seen any discrimination against any one group of people. Everyone can find a group to fit into, and I think people at the school are very good at accepting others.

Fair Number of Options

Plenty of high-quality chains and campus-run dining options on the North Campus and Elicott complexes, but only two places with restricted hours on South Campus. If you're in a curriculum centered on the south campus, you might find the choice a bit lacking.

Education

There are many courses offered in multiple time and the professors are there to really help

Nightlife at My School

The parties are usually house parties. The downtown area is quite far so bars and clubs are only gone to on occasion. You need a ride everywhere! But they are usually fun!
