Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There was a recent massive strengthening of the rules regarding drinking and drugs brought about following some alleged sexual assaults in the past couple of years. There were several alleged date rapes, and after this, the administration had no choice but to start enforcing rules more strictly and punishing offenders. The Selinsgrove Borough Police Department has also become involved in the effort, making it harder to party both on and off campus. Although this sounds like a dire situation, resourceful college students of course still manage to have successful off-campus parties. If students here dedicated as much time to studying as they did to finding ways to party, they’d all have 4.0s. Refreshingly, there always seems to be a good-sized pool of designated drivers around on any given night, and because the school is so small, if a student needs to be taken home from a party, he or she will be able to find someone who is sober and willing to come and pick them up.

If you’re breaking the rules (or the law) and not being careful about it, you’re going to get caught and get in trouble, which is technically what should happen anyway. So the exchange is that in order to have a safe campus, you also have to have a strict campus, which to most seems perfectly fair.

Not Too Strict, but the Kids Are Not Bad

The campus doesn't really have a reason to crack down because the kids at SU are really good people. Quiet hours start at 10pm on weekdays, which can be annoying, but are also conducive to studying. Usually you will get warnings instead of being written up though. If you are caught with drugs or alcohol you will get written up, and the university has a pretty clear cut policy on it. They are more interested in helping the student than getting them in trouble, however if behavior is consistent, the policies are enforced.

Not Too Strict, but Campus Safety Is Around

I have seen many people get away with stuff, but when it was important, campus safety takes care of everything. The punishments seem fair and reasonable.
