College Prowler Take

There are always a few students who complain that there is nothing to do on campus. While we don’t have a movie theater per se, Charlie’s Coffeehouse has a big-screen TV to show movies that are no longer out in the theaters but have yet to come out on DVD. On some occasions, a giant screen is put up on one of the campus lawns, and a popcorn machine is brought out for an outside movie at night. There isn’t a bowling alley on campus, but there is one not far away; the same applies for bars. Charlie’s is always a good place to hang out and just sit on one of their comfy sofas and drink coffee.

Every weekend there is at least one sponsored event on campus, be it a comedian, a dance troupe, or a campus version of a game show. There was recently “SU Squares” as well as a campus version of the old MTV dating show Singled Out. Campus activities involve prizes, which in the past have included gift certificates for dinner, gift baskets from the campus bookstore, and even DVD players or PlayStation consoles. So despite what some may think, there is a lot to do on campus, and a lot of effort put forth by faculty members and student organizations to make it that way.

The facilities on campus are very nice. The cafeteria and a portion of the student center recently underwent renovation. The computers are all fairly new with flat-screen monitors, but the printers aren’t always working well.

The facilities are pretty nice here on campus; I like them. The athletic center is really nice as it’s only a couple of years old. The computer labs are pretty good as well; all of the computers are kept up-to-date. The Deg (student center) is pretty good; it normally isn’t crowded except for meal times, such as lunch and dinner during the week and brunch on Saturday and Sunday, but otherwise, it’s pretty good.

On campus, there is always something happening on the weekends. Charlie’s Coffeehouse shows movies not yet released on DVD and also has comedians and bands. Last year, the most popular night was definitely when Charlie’s had toys that students could stuff themselves. The Student Activities Committee (SAC) frequently sponsors concerts, shows, or interactive events such as casino night.
