Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are always a few students who complain that there is nothing to do on campus. While we don’t have a movie theater per se, Charlie’s Coffeehouse has a big-screen TV to show movies that are no longer out in the theaters but have yet to come out on DVD. On some occasions, a giant screen is put up on one of the campus lawns, and a popcorn machine is brought out for an outside movie at night. There isn’t a bowling alley on campus, but there is one not far away; the same applies for bars. Charlie’s is always a good place to hang out and just sit on one of their comfy sofas and drink coffee.

Every weekend there is at least one sponsored event on campus, be it a comedian, a dance troupe, or a campus version of a game show. There was recently “SU Squares” as well as a campus version of the old MTV dating show Singled Out. Campus activities involve prizes, which in the past have included gift certificates for dinner, gift baskets from the campus bookstore, and even DVD players or PlayStation consoles. So despite what some may think, there is a lot to do on campus, and a lot of effort put forth by faculty members and student organizations to make it that way.

Gym Is Great

The facilities at Susquehanna University are great; the gym is state of the art and always fun to be in. We have multiple basketball courts, racquetball courts, a weight room, a room with ellipticals, and an impressive indoor track meet. The Student Union is fully wireless, has two places to eat, and a computer lab for studies. It also has an art gallery and a performance hall for school run plays. SU has great facilities.

Dorms Are So-So

We have some really great newer buildings, but the older ones are used for freshmen and one upperclassmen dorm. They don't have wireless internet and the upperclassmen dorm has smaller rooms than the freshmen dorms. One annoyance I have is that it costs more money to live in a single room, but the new buildings are designed in suite style with two single rooms and a double. So if you want to share a suite with your friends two of you will be forced to pay an extra $500 a semester because of how the buildings we designed.

Impressive and Beautiful

I don't really go to the gym that often, but the facilities are definitely there. The field house is gorgeous and huge. You can play basketball, run track, or set up the batting cages. Its great. There are plenty of machines of all types of workout and weightlifting, and pool, and of course the football field and track. There is even the field in the middle of campus for rec and intramural. The library is great and multilevel with plenty of diverse areas for studying. Study rooms fill up during midterms and finals, but are great for groups. The campus is beautiful with architecture and the landscaping. The student center was recently renovated and is comfortable and has plenty to offer for all student needs. I could really go on, the facilities are great all around. The only downside is that during heavy rain the campus does fill up with water because of the nearby river, so its important to have rain boots!

On campus, there is always something happening on the weekends. Charlie’s Coffeehouse shows movies not yet released on DVD and also has comedians and bands. Last year, the most popular night was definitely when Charlie’s had toys that students could stuff themselves. The Student Activities Committee (SAC) frequently sponsors concerts, shows, or interactive events such as casino night.
