Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Academic advising is there for a reason; consult them before making any decisions about grading or major.
  • Being homesick is totally normal for anyone, not just freshmen. Admitting it doesn’t make you a baby.
  • Get involved in activities your freshman year. That way, when you can get practicum your sophomore year, you already have a foot in the door.
Tips to Succeed
  • Participate! Your professors get to know you on a personal level, so take advantage of this.
  • Put your work before your social life. Classes are small, so if you’re not prepared or haven’t done your homework, it’s pretty tricky to bluff, particularly if you’re hung over.
  • Put yourself out there. It’s a tiny campus; make yourself available. It sounds intimidating, but you’ll never lack for friends, and you’ll have connections when you need them.

Campus Grabs and Holds Attention

This campus is truly beautiful. It looks just as good in person as it does in the professionally done advertising pictures. The squirrels here serve as entertainment as you're walking from class to class - walks, I might add, that, at longest, last only about five minutes. The closeness of our academic buildings makes everything SO much easier than at larger schools.

Our academics at SU are important to everyone, but you will still find the SGA president at a party on Saturday night, right next to a baseball player. The social lines on this campus are nearly nonexistent - we're all students at SU and so we all work to get along and help each other out.

Typical All-American School in a Rural Setting

Susquehanna is basically your typical all-American school. Most students here are from working class and middle class families, mostly from rural Pennsylvania and New Jersey. There aren't many minorities in any sense of the word. Most of the people here could probably be classified as jocky, redneck, or preppy. The social scene is lacking; the only thing to do is party, and there are weekends when there aren't any being thrown. The school tries to put on activities over the weekend, but they are very poorly attended by students. There is a small mall, movie theater, restraunts, Walmart, and some other chain stores withing ten minutes. Other than that, the school's pretty remote, so its difficult to get to entertainment.

Facts

Traditions
  • Candlelight Service: The Christmas Candlelight Service is a huge ordeal every December. Many music and chapel organizations hold a service in Weber Chapel Auditorium, which often fills to capacity. Many people from the campus and surrounding towns come to see the candles lit and music sung.
  • Fall Frenzy and Spring Weekend : Students always look forward to Fall Frenzy (in the fall, for those who don’t catch on quickly) and Spring Weekend, which is the last weekend before final exams. Although these weekends are infamous on campus because of their “out-ofcontrol drinking” (this is a myth), they are a lot of fun because of the activities. There are usually obstacle courses and different carnival-type attractions, as well as live concerts.
Urban Legends
  • Alpha Delta Pi sorority house is supposedly haunted, with various sisters having stories about eerie experiences involving footsteps when nobody else is home, hearing doors slam, lights mysteriously going on or off, or hearing whispering when there is nobody else in the house.
  • Legend has it that The Doors once performed at SU and Jim Morrison later attended campus parties and allegedly signed his name somewhere in the attic of the Kappa Delta sorority house.
