Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The nightlife at SU is viewed in many different ways depending on what people consider to be an exhilarating night. For those 21 and older, the bars of Selinsgrove are popular places. The most well-liked seems to be Bot’s, followed by BJ’s (also a popular restaurant). There is also Selin’s Grove Brewing and the Selinsgrove Inn. These places all check ID, and it is next to impossible to be served if you are a minor. The closest clubs and cocktail lounges are in Harrisburg. Selinsgrove has sports bars, like those found at chain restaurants, and lively bars, but there are no jazz clubs or comedy clubs. Also the movie theater’s “late shows” are usually around 9:15 p.m.

The campus itself provides plenty to do at night, as mentioned in the Local Atmosphere section. It sometimes seems like there are more activities for students who do not drink than those who do. The only alcohol activities are the bars or parties. The parties, while fun, are liable to be busted if they go on too late into the night, if they are excessively loud, or if a lot of students are noticed entering a house or apartment.

Transportation

I do not know much concerning nightlife at college because I am under 21 and do not go out to either under 21 clubs or underage parties. However, I am somewhat aware of the Traxportation and that it is utilized by many students to provide safe transport to off-campus nightlife activities.

Small Town Nightlife

There is not much that goes on in Selinsgrove. There are lots of little parties usually on the weekends, but really only one or two bars in the town. There is a cool system called Traxportation that is basically a bus that makes rounds on the weekend nights so that there is not a need to drink and drive.

Fun Without Alcohol

There are parties on and off campus, different houses to drink at, and of course TRAX is a popular place to hang out on a Friday night. TRAX is an on-campus warehouse that has parties every Friday night and drinks for people 21 and older. I would say, however, that Friday nights can be fun without the drinking! At Charlies (the coffee house inside the campus center) always plays movies on the weekend. Also, there are always events happening on campus that the students, like myself, who don't drink can get involved in without having to go against the law!

Facts

Club Crawler

There are no local off-campus clubs; the town atmosphere is about the bars. If clubbing is your thing, you’ll have to start organizing dance parties in your dorm room or attend one of the events at Trax, the on-campus club.

Bar Prowler

The bars in Selinsgrove are close together, but students don’t really make their way from one to another. They mostly hang out at one for a night, maybe moving to another to meet up with other friends.

Organization Parties

There are some great parties thrown by organizations, but they do not have alcohol involved. This does not make them any less fun, though, as organizations use their houses and Trax to show off and raise money. They are a great time to hang out with friends and meet other people.
