College Prowler Take

The nightlife at SU is viewed in many different ways depending on what people consider to be an exhilarating night. For those 21 and older, the bars of Selinsgrove are popular places. The most well-liked seems to be Bot’s, followed by BJ’s (also a popular restaurant). There is also Selin’s Grove Brewing and the Selinsgrove Inn. These places all check ID, and it is next to impossible to be served if you are a minor. The closest clubs and cocktail lounges are in Harrisburg. Selinsgrove has sports bars, like those found at chain restaurants, and lively bars, but there are no jazz clubs or comedy clubs. Also the movie theater’s “late shows” are usually around 9:15 p.m.

The campus itself provides plenty to do at night, as mentioned in the Local Atmosphere section. It sometimes seems like there are more activities for students who do not drink than those who do. The only alcohol activities are the bars or parties. The parties, while fun, are liable to be busted if they go on too late into the night, if they are excessively loud, or if a lot of students are noticed entering a house or apartment.

Parties on campus aren’t...

Parties on campus aren’t around as much as they used to be because the school has cracked down on them. Most of them took place at the fraternities, but the school has been trying to keep the party life down. And though that isn’t really great, lots of students still have little parties, with only 10 to 12 people, which are a lot of fun. The basic thing is that if you are under 21, as I am, you have to make your own fun. I know that people go to BJ’s because it has a great bar but can be expensive, and they go to Bot’s, which is a couple doors down from BJ’s. Some students 21 and older go to The Peppermint Lounge, which I believe is a type of club/bar, but there aren’t really any clubs that people go to around here.

There are not many parties on campus since the recent rape incidents. The frats are pretty dry. There is Bot’s, but it’s not that great, just a small countryside bar. I personally do not like it. There are not any clubs around. The closest I know is in Allentown, a two-hour drive.

There are no on-campus parties....

There are no on-campus parties. Party life in Selinsgrove is very limited thanks to a crackdown on drinking. The police do not hesitate to break up any known parties off campus, and public safety will stop any on-campus parties. Because I’m not 21 and I don’t go to bars, I can’t really vouch for any good bars.

Facts

Club Crawler

There are no local off-campus clubs; the town atmosphere is about the bars. If clubbing is your thing, you’ll have to start organizing dance parties in your dorm room or attend one of the events at Trax, the on-campus club.

Bar Prowler

The bars in Selinsgrove are close together, but students don’t really make their way from one to another. They mostly hang out at one for a night, maybe moving to another to meet up with other friends.

Organization Parties

There are some great parties thrown by organizations, but they do not have alcohol involved. This does not make them any less fun, though, as organizations use their houses and Trax to show off and raise money. They are a great time to hang out with friends and meet other people.

Club Listings

A campus nightclub and entertainment venue that opened in 2006, Trax hosts themed parties, dances, musical groups, and other performers. On a weekly basis there is dancing in a nightclub setting, with bands and comedians performing every once in a while.
