Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The nightlife at SU is viewed in many different ways depending on what people consider to be an exhilarating night. For those 21 and older, the bars of Selinsgrove are popular places. The most well-liked seems to be Bot’s, followed by BJ’s (also a popular restaurant). There is also Selin’s Grove Brewing and the Selinsgrove Inn. These places all check ID, and it is next to impossible to be served if you are a minor. The closest clubs and cocktail lounges are in Harrisburg. Selinsgrove has sports bars, like those found at chain restaurants, and lively bars, but there are no jazz clubs or comedy clubs. Also the movie theater’s “late shows” are usually around 9:15 p.m.

The campus itself provides plenty to do at night, as mentioned in the Local Atmosphere section. It sometimes seems like there are more activities for students who do not drink than those who do. The only alcohol activities are the bars or parties. The parties, while fun, are liable to be busted if they go on too late into the night, if they are excessively loud, or if a lot of students are noticed entering a house or apartment.

House Parties and Underage Drinking

Sometimes it seems like everyone drinks here. Honestly, I'm not a huge partier, but it is so easy to go to a house party- especially if you are female. Girls get in free most of times, and guys can get in by paying and by bringing a certain number of girls. It doesn't matter if you're underage. The police station is located right next to the main row of party homes, but that doesn't deter parties one bit. There are parties every weekend. I have heard that they run out of alcohol quickly, so most people "pregame" in their dorms. Be sure to bring your own alcohol to your dorm. They will really only check for it over breaks, so hide it well or bring it home then, and they will also only check if they have a good reason. Most RAs are pretty laid back, so they barely write people up. If you party, come here. You can get shlammered. If you don't, good luck finding something to do on weekends. Oh and there are bars in town that are within walking (or crawling) distance if you are 21+.

Depends What You're Looking for

There aren't a million clubs and bars, but there are a few. SU also has TRAX which is a student run night club where if you're 21 you get wristbanded and get FREE drinks. There's always going on at SU during the weekends.

Rate the off-campus bar and club scene on the following topics

What is the party scene like on campus?

What’s the best way to get to the popular nightlife spots?

Facts

Club Crawler

There are no local off-campus clubs; the town atmosphere is about the bars. If clubbing is your thing, you’ll have to start organizing dance parties in your dorm room or attend one of the events at Trax, the on-campus club.

Bar Prowler

The bars in Selinsgrove are close together, but students don’t really make their way from one to another. They mostly hang out at one for a night, maybe moving to another to meet up with other friends.

Closing Time

Bot’s

Organization Parties

There are some great parties thrown by organizations, but they do not have alcohol involved. This does not make them any less fun, though, as organizations use their houses and Trax to show off and raise money. They are a great time to hang out with friends and meet other people.
