Facts

Interviews & Information Sessions

Admissions counselors conduct group information sessions several times a day during the school year. Appointments are not necessary—just stop by the Admissions Office. Visit www.swarthmore.edu/campustour.xml to see an updated schedule of information session times. The sessions are usually about an hour long.

Interviews are held on campus in the Admissions Office on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and on Saturday mornings in the fall. To schedule an interview, call Admissions at (610) 328-8300 or use the online form at www.swarthmore.edu/x338.xml. For students living more than a half-day drive from campus, off-campus interviews with alumni are also conducted. The website gives a table of when to schedule an interview, depending on the type of application (fall early decision, winter early decision, regular decision). To schedule an off-campus interview, call the Admissions Office or use the online form.

Campus Tours

The Admissions Office provides tours of the campus led by current students. Tour times during the regular school year are 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 2 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturdays. No appointment is necessary, but the schedule does change for holidays, exam periods, and vacations, so you may want to call ahead, or you can check here: www.swarthmore.edu/campustour.xml.

Overnight Visits

The only way to get a genuine feel for Swarthmore is to schedule an overnight visit. The Admissions Office sets you up with a host whose interests usually match yours. Make sure to talk to as many students as you can during this time to get the real scoop on Swarthmore. Some of the many things you can do on an overnight visit are visit a class, get dinner in Sharples, go to a student-run organization, or attend an athletic event. Contact Admissions at (610) 328-8300 or visit www.swarthmore.edu/x337.xml for more information about overnight visits.

Did You Know?
  • Other than the standard "attend a class" or "overnight stay" events that prospective students can choose, Swarthmore also has many unique events. One is "Junior College Visit Day," which occurs in the spring. It is only open to high school juniors starting their college process, and it is a great information session for both students and their parents. Student-geared topics include how to prepare for an interview, how to find a college that is the right fit for you, and how to write a successful college essay. The Admissions Office also takes you inside Swarthmore's admissions process to show the students what they REALLY look for in a student. For parents, Swarthmore usually goes over the financial situation and what the work is like for a typical Swattie. For more information, visit www.swarthmore.edu/x29497.xml.
  • For minority prospective students, Swarthmore holds an event called "Discover Swarthmore!" aka DiscoSwat. This occurs during the beginning of the fall semester and allows students to stay on campus just like an overnight stay except there are special programs during the stay, including musical/theatrical performances, discussions with campus cultural groups, and much more. For more information, visit www.swarthmore.edu/x6252.xml.
