Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Sports in Syracuse (as a city) are huge. Syracuse is an Orange town through and through, and everywhere you go you will find support for the Orange. On the SU campus, the sentiment is not as pronounced. In the two major sports (football and basketball), SU students differ in their fanaticism. Football can draw some hardcore fans, and as most sports teams, some fair-weather fans. Basketball, however, brings out a unified, campus-wide pride. The successful 2002–2003 season might have had something to do with the boost in supportive school spirit for the basketball team. SU students just can’t get enough of the basketball team. One main reason students love varsity sports is the Carrier Dome—the setting for all football, men’s basketball, and men’s lacrosse home games. The Dome is great for football, especially when it’s snowing outside, as well as basketball. The best part about the Dome is its location—right in the middle of the SU campus.

Intramural sports are fairly popular at SU. Flag football and basketball are the big draws, and they can get competitive—unfortunately, maybe a little too competitive. The rules are very strictly enforced, which is why pick-up games seem to be the better option for most of the students on the SU campus.

Obviously a Sports-Fan's Dream

Student season tickets are pretty cheap for basketball/football seasons. Lacrosse Games are free for students. School spirit thrives year-round. Work-out facilities are also widely available and have pretty good equipment. There are also a lot of opportunities to get involved in athletic/outing clubs.

Basketball and Lacrosse

Football here is definitely not worth your time. One good year and all the students think we're amazing, can't even win a game. However the basketball and lacrosse season spirits are top notch!

Getting Tickets

It is relatively easy to get tickets at SU. For football, basketball, and lacrosse, there are season ticket packages available for students to pre-order before the year begins. For individual game tickets, the only tough ones to get are for football and men’s basketball; otherwise, as long as you buy them a little in advance, they should be easy to get. All students sit in the same section in the Carrier Dome, so make sure you go early to get a nice seat to cheer with your friends. You can buy tickets online at athletics.syr.edu/tickets.asp.
