College Prowler Take

Off-campus dining can be split into two distinct categories: the restaurants within walking distance in the Marshall Street area, and restaurants within driving distance, like downtown Syracuse. Invariably, the farther away from SU you go, the better the selection of places to eat will be, but there are a few decent places that are easily accessible to freshmen. Faegan’s is a bar/restaurant and one of the only locales around campus where you can enjoy a true sit-down meal. Other restaurants include: Aladdin’s, Varsity, and Cosmos. Still others, like Acropolis, Baja Burrito, El Saha, and the Pita Pit are open until 2 a.m. or later on the weekends. They are very popular at those times specifically.

Stepping farther from campus, the choices are a little broader. Italian restaurants like Delmonico’s Italian Steakhouse and Spaghetti Warehouse are appealing in their own ways. Delmonico’s has a distinct setting, one that highlights Italian Americans in caricatures around the entire interior of the restaurant. Spaghetti Warehouse is a large restaurant that, not surprisingly, is built in an abandoned warehouse. The Warehouse is decorated with large carriages, a fair-like ambiance, and hearty meals. Try the lasagna, the house specialty. Another restaurant of note is Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, a popular locale for many SU students, as well as their families during visiting weekends. The Bar-B-Que is a biker hangout that has some of the best ribs in Syracuse. The Dinosaur Bar-B-Que sauces are famous across Central New York. Whether you choose to dine close to campus or a little further away, you are sure to satisfy your appetite.

There are some good places to eat, but they tend to be farther from campus, such as Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Other places for good eats are Faegan's and Insomnia Cookies. There is a variety of food places to try, if you get tired of campus dining.

The restaurants off campus are much better than the ones on campus. Acro’s, Cosmos, and Panda West are some of the good places. My favorite, however, is the Samrat Indian Restaurant and the Nawab Palace. The Indian curries they serve out here are mouth watering and awesome.

Syracuse offers more dining...

Syracuse offers more dining attractions than you might expect from a medium-sized city. Marshall Street and Erie Boulevard are the major strips of places where you catch a bite to eat.
