Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Getting around campus is fairly easy if you pay attention to the many schedules and signs provided for students. Syracuse University has a convenient bus service that shuttles students to and from South Campus, as well as around main campus. There are also three bus stops on campus for trips to such places as downtown Syracuse and the Carousel Mall. As long as you know the schedule, you will certainly do fine getting around campus.

Also, taxis are always readily available. Some students hail a cab to go to the airport, which can be fairly inexpensive. Other students like to use cabs as their designated driver when they go to bars and frats on campus, and they are always available late at night. Buses, trains, and planes are also convenient, as long as you can make your way to either Hancock Airport or the Transportation Center. Both are within a 10-minute drive from the SU campus. Although the airport is small, there are flights that leave from Hancock to almost every destination an SU student would need to go.

Man, It Sucks.

The buses most used are for South Campus, a campus dedicated to just housing that is about 30min walk, 15min bus ride to Main. The transportation system was just changed and it's awful--buses are never on time, they come every seven minutes but often there are two buses at once or none at all. On weekends, it's every twenty minutes, which sucks because they're never on time--if you miss one, you're waiting twenty minutes. And because the weather sucks most of the time, you can't walk to class.

Buses to other places are few and far between, and require payment most of the time.

Syracuse University Transportation

It is fairly easy to get around the campus area without a car depending on your meal plan. The buses running to South campus are adequate but due to budget cuts there are too many students and not enough buses to accommodate them. This is more of a safety hazard than anything due too many students cramming themselves on to buses.

Buses Are the Only Good Option.

There are buses to get anywhere in Syracuse. There's a free service on Friday and Saturday nights that takes you to the Carousel Mall. And if you need to get to downtown, the Connective Corridor is a free service for anybody that runs from the SU campus to downtown Syracuse.
