Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

A prominent religious figure—Jesus of Nazareth—once asked "what good it does a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul?" Others have asked, in despair, "what use is there for success when there's no one to share it with?" Taylor University firmly believes that there's no point to excellence without community, and it is that belief which drives everything that happens on campus. From football games to ice cream socials to chapels to Pick-a-Dates to wing retreats to Airband to small group Bible studies, Taylor students are surrounded by a community fueled by a genuine desire to love God by loving people. Students have been known to compare Taylor to having an extended family—2,000 members strong—with all the good and bad implied in the term.

Taylor University's core mission is to produce "whole" persons who think creatively and logically, who are prepared to serve Christ all over the globe, and who are imbued with an inescapable desire to love others as God loves them. It's not coincidental that one of the first general education requirements is a course that emphasizes the critical importance of seeing fellow human beings as intrinsically valuable, nor is it random that students are encouraged to strive for their potential. People enter Taylor as wide-eyed learners and leave as inspired servant-leaders. But, again, Taylor's heartbeat is "intentional community": relationships built for the purpose of loving each other in Christ, friendships that outlast a four-year plan. No, Taylor's facilities aren't state-of-the-art; the food isn't gourmet, and the athletic teams haven't won national championships. That isn't the point. The point is—the point has always been—love. And that will be the point for generations of Taylor Trojans to come.
