Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Taylor University is situated in Upland, Ind., a rural town with fewer than 4,000 inhabitants. Furthermore, the general atmosphere of the town is one of Midwest kindness and hospitality. Crime? Unlikely—extremely unlikely. The campus itself is quite tame, as well. Students are discouraged from walking alone at night, of course, but the campus is small, and there are no places so remote that no one can run to help. More noticeably, the campus police are vigilant and dedicated to the safety of students, offering such services as a self-defense class (taught by an extremely experienced captain) and an emergency texting service that alerts subscribed students about potential campus threats, though word of mouth is almost as fast.

For minor injuries, health checkups, and other simple concerns, students can visit the IU Health Upland Center, located just across the street from the University. For more serious problems, Blackford Hospital is about 15 minutes from campus (by car). Barring serious, preexisting health problems, though, it's unlikely a student will ever see the inside of either place in all four years; Taylor is a safe place.

Great Safty

For a small force and small campus the officers make it key to get the know the students and work with local police as well.

Safety of a Small Town

One nice thing about living in Upland is that crime is relatively low. Locking doors is always wise, but it's not a huge issue here. Campus Safety generally keeps things safe without intruding, though beware of speeding on the Loop. And if you have any problems, they really do a good job of taking care of students.

Safety

At Taylor I've always felt very secure. The university has campus police that patrol frequently and since Taylor is in the middle of cornfields crime is minimal.
