Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There's one thing to be clear about: Taylor University is a dry campus. Every student on arrival signs a document called the "Life Together Covenant" (LTC), which is an agreement to lead a certain kind of lifestyle while attending Taylor. The central points? No drugs, no drinking, no dancing. Other behaviors are also prohibited (premarital sex, gambling, foul language, and fisticuffs, etc.), and for some people, these rules mean, essentially, that there's really no "nightlife" at Taylor. Of course, there are some students for whom the LTC is only a piece of paper; it is very possible to find a party scene if you look hard enough. Be warned, however: Upland, Ind. is extremely secluded (and has few proper bars), and besides that, the consequences for blatant disregard of the rules can be severe.

But, alas, if Taylor is a no-booze, no-bongs environment, how can anyone have fun on the weekends? Well, students get creative. Every week, the dorms have "open house" times when anyone can be on the floor to hang out and have fun. Certain special open houses have become highly anticipated annual traditions, and, if an open house isn't your cup of tea, there are almost always people in the dorm willing to stay up late and talk about classes, theology, relationships, wishes, dreams, struggles, or the infinitely complex secrets of ham and turkey sandwiches.

None.

There is no night scene. Partly because we are in a small town and also because none of us are allowed to drink or go dancing.

Taylor University Nightlife

Taylor is a dry campus in a dry county, so while parties still occur, they are not often publicized. There will occasionally be a concert in the student union on the weekends. There is no drinking or clubbing allowed though.

Taylor is, admittedly, in the middle of nowhere, so the "nightlife" is not that of your typical university. However, the students always come up with fun, random activities and there is always something to do.

Organization Parties

It's not uncommon to have events or parties with your department, hall, or wing. Other organizations, like Mu Kappa, are fond of a get-together now and again, as well.

Did You Know? At Taylor, all of the students are "under 21" in terms of drinking. Students are expected to party responsibly and soberly, and in a manner that is pleasing to God.
