Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As one might expect from a remote location like Upland, restaurant options are few and far between (close to campus, at least). Students wanting to spice up their culinary options have the choice between a 10-minute drive to any of a number of cheap fast food restaurants and a 10-minute walk to Ivanhoe's. The 10-minute walk is a popular choice, particularly when desserts at the Dining Commons (DC) are feeling a little subpar, since Ivanhoe's boasts a collection of 100 different shakes and 100 different types of ice cream. In addition, a widespread Taylor tradition is to visit the Circle K for cheap, tasty Bosco Sticks at least once in your college career. For those with cars, options are broader, including a McDonald's, Burger King, Arby's, East of Chicago Pizza, and Starbucks. However, besides the franchises, there are also locally-owned-and-operated joints like Payne's Custard & Coffee, yet another must-eat for Taylor students.

During Parents' Weekend, when students try to convince their parents that they really are surviving at college, all on their own, a popular choice for food is Cracker Barrel, the only sit-down restaurant for several miles. Just make sure to save room for dessert at Ivanhoe's!

Fairly Reasonable and Cooperative

People who live off-campus are still able to have meal plans, they can save money by only purchasing a cheaper meal plan that will allow them to spend less money. Room and board does not have to play a factor, rather just paying rent. Which is pretty reasonable, especially the apartments that are still fairly close to campus.

If You Have a Car..

It's great if you have a car and are willing to drive for at least 20 minutes in order to get to the restaurants. But if you don't then you're stuck with whatever you cant get at Ivanhoe's or the Handy Andy down the street.
