College Prowler Take
Students have a tendency to view athletes as having a lot of privileges despite having teams that aren’t exactly stellar. The football team sucks, and the basketball team isn’t much better, and because of this, you can be sure that tuition is going to increase. Nevertheless, Temple has phenomenal gymnastics, fencing, tennis, and swim teams. All of the sports are Division I teams. There is a bigger hype around the intramural teams. There are numerous intramural and club teams that students can get involved in. Temple also offers funding and promotional opportunities to help clubs become established and grow. Despite the not-so-excellent sports record for varsity sports, students support their teams by wearing cherry and white. Most often, students will show school spirit even though they aren’t too crazy about the sport they are watching. The school is always giving out paraphernalia such as pom-poms and T-shirts. The main rivalries are with UPenn, LaSalle, and St. Joe’s. Getting into see any of the games isn’t too much of a problem. Everything except basketball is free, and you can even get invitations for guests. Students seem to want to be more spirited and enthusiastic about sports, but they really need a good team to rally behind.

They’re so-so. Basketball used to be good, but it seems to have lost some of its appeal to me lately. It was really good when I first got here—not good now. Football has had three winning seasons since I’ve been alive, so I think that speaks for itself. The women’s basketball team is decent, I guess. I never went to a game, but I know they got more hype than the men’s team, which has really fallen off. |

Football sucks! The basketball team was great, but is now okay. Our rowing teams are outstanding, but nobody knows (or probably cares). The only way Temple can get me to go to any game is if Halle Berry invites me to sit with her, go out to dinner afterwards, and spend the night in her hotel room. |

I didn’t really get into the sports scene because the teams suck. |

Even if they were any good, I wouldn’t have been bothered because then I would have been on the bandwagon with all the other people. |

A lot of the other sports are actually good at Temple, but the school only cares about the major two (football and basketball). But, I mean, those are the only two I care about. |
