College Prowler Take
Temple has its share of rules, but in comparison to other colleges, Temple is not strict at all. People have escaped without getting in trouble for streaking, drinking in broad daylight, and hanging out in buildings past closing. Students will, only briefly, see the face of a police officer during parties and traffic jams. They don’t want anything to happen that will make their jobs more difficult. They frisk at parties, double check IDs, and have barricades that stretch the entire length of the block. There’s usually a lot of traffic on 13th Street, not just with the cars, but also with the pedestrians. Cops are always at the corners blowing their whistles and arguing about parking zones. Students find these to be the most prevalent examples of the police working and being a bit strict, but it is all done out of the safety for Temple students. Despite being fairly lax on rules, campus security is almost always watching. There might not be Temple police or guards around, but at certain ‘secretive’ locations at school, there are cameras outside the building. The cameras work as a deterrent, keeping students from doing anything that may be frowned upon in fear that it may be caught on tape. Most students don’t have a problem with the level of security, rather they dislike the inconsistency, but from what they have said, they don’t seem to see a need for anymore strictness.

Security is very relaxed
B
They do bag checks on the weekends sometimes—more-so in Johnson and Hardwick. Every time I got caught smoking weed on campus, the campus cops would just tell us to dump it out and get out. My friends who got caught smoking in their rooms had to pay a fine. It's not that big of a deal. Security is pretty lax on students. Last 4/20 there were about 50 people on the front lawn of Johnson and Hardwick lighting up and no one did anything..

I know the alcohol rules are enforced depending on who your RA is; not that they will turn their head all the time, but you can slide by the first time or so, as long as your aren’t blatantly disrespectful or anything. The Spectra rent-a-cops can be pricks at times about swiping in or signing in, but I guess their job is to increase safety, even though some aren’t very consistent. |

They got this thing called ‘one-strike rules’ and stuff for illegal activity on campus, but I don’t think too much goes on here. You never hear about arrests or anything. |

They have gotten stricter since I’ve been here; they have banned Thursday parties on campus and at the fraternities. |
