College Prowler Take

There are a lot of options to eat off campus. In the surrounding community alone, there are dozens of places to go to find food. The good thing about those places is that many of them do accept Diamond Dollars, Temple's dining currency. Temple students and staff have more then enough different selections of food to choice from. This is why many students do take on the Freshman15. Eating off campus can cost more money than one might expect. There are few restaurants within walking distance, so without a car, you will not only be paying for your food, but also your transportation. If you have reliable transportation and some money to burn, Philly has an excellent selection of restaurants. The historic feel of the city is well worth the cost.

Some of the types of food that are offered range from cheesesteak (which Philadelphia is known for) to Japanese, so you never get bored eating the same thing everyday. In addition to dinner options in North Philly, Philadelphia also offer a ranger of different restaurants in both Center City and Old City. Most new residents are drawn to Pat’s cheesesteaks or Geno’s. The two have been long-time rivals, so try both and pick your favorite. If you are feeling a little adventurous, head away from the center of the city and into one of the smaller neighborhoods with small restaurants found on almost every corner. You will find friendly people and excellent, cheap food. If you’re a late eater, there are numerous places open late that deliver. There is a little something for everyone, no matter what you are in the mood for or what the occasion is.

Owl’s Nest was closed so long, people forgot about it. It’s a pretty cool place, but kind of dirty. They made everything, and it stayed open really late.

I think it is an A- because all of the good restaurants are not reachable within reason, and you have to take a subway to get there. Right on campus there is not much to choose from!

The Owls Nest is located in a very reasonable location right on Broad Street across from the Johnson and Hardwick halls. It's a great late-night atmosphere for freshmen and sophomores to get a midnight snack!

Did You Know?

Philly is known for its cheesesteaks. Try Pat’s in South Philly, and if you don’t like their steaks, try Geno’s, which is right across the street. They say if you don’t like one, you’ll love the other. Real cheesesteaks do not have peppers!

Philly is also known for subs and water ice, and let’s not forget Philadelphia soft pretzels sold by the street-side vendor (take a risk, try the pretzels, they’re well worth it).
