Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There are a lot of options for off-campus dining. In the surrounding community alone, there are dozens of places to go to find food. The good thing about these places is that many of them accept Diamond Dollars, Temple's dining currency. Temple students and staff have more than enough different selections of food to choose from. This is why many students put on the Freshman 15. Eating off campus can cost more money than one might expect. There are few restaurants within walking distance, so without a car, you will not only be paying for your food, but also your transportation. If you have reliable transportation and some money to burn, Philly has an excellent selection of restaurants. The historic feel of the city is well worth the cost.

Some of the types of food that are offered range from cheesesteak (which Philadelphia is known for) to Japanese, so you never get bored eating the same thing every day. In addition to dinner options in North Philly, Philadelphia also offers a range of different restaurants in both Center City and Old City. Most new residents are drawn to Pat’s cheesesteaks or Geno’s. The two have been long-time rivals, so try both and pick your favorite. If you are feeling a little adventurous, head away from the center of the city and into one of the smaller neighborhoods, with small restaurants found on almost every corner. You will find friendly people and excellent, cheap food. If you’re a late eater, there are numerous places open late that deliver. There is a little something for everyone, no matter what you are in the mood for or what the occasion is.

Have You Seen So Many Options Before?

Savory Crapes, Vietnamese Noodles, Middle Eastern Kebab, Fame's Famous Pizzas, Sushi Truck, COOKIES!, and everything else your taste buds desire you can find at Temple University. Plus they're not expensive at all, even for a college student. We know how tough it can be sometimes.

Not Many, but Convenient

There are not many places to eat at that are off-campus. Most restaurant that are good are in the city.

Restaurants around campus are known for a certain something, and nothing else.

McDonalds, Wendys, Ritas, and Qdoba are cheap and familiar. Temple Star which is on Diamond St has DELICIOUS pizza rolls that are very cheap, everything else on the menu isnt that great though. Ugotmunchies is right across J&H and has great fried oreos and other fat foods (like cheese fries) for when you got the munchies. The Drought Horse is a restaurant/bar where you can take you family when they visit on weekends. City View Pizza has decent pizza (better than J&H pizza)

Theres not many places that are good, but anything will be better than any food that is covered under your meal plan. And these places are also satisfying when you have late-night cravings

You'll Never Get Bored!

Campus life in the city means that there are tons of different restaurants that can accommodate all tastes and budgets. There are cuisines from all around the globe at your fingertips, and most of it is affordable to college students. Do you have your university ID card? Many places offer discounts to college students, and also allow them to pay for their meals via money loaded onto the card.

Facts

Did You Know?
  • Philly is known for its cheesesteaks. Try Pat's in South Philly, and if you don't like their steaks, try Geno's, which is right across the street. They say if you don't like one, you'll love the other. Real cheesesteaks do not have peppers!
  • Philly is also known for subs and water ice, and let's not forget Philadelphia soft pretzels sold by the street-side vendor (take a risk, try the pretzels—they're well worth it).
